View Full Version : buy stock or with turbo installed????
italianman1987 01-10-2008, 10:12 AM so i went to the dealership im in the market for an rx8 between 05 and 07, found a perfect white one 05 17k miles with whole body and gredd turbo with borla exhaust installed. very well kept great condition. do you guys think its worth buying the one with the greddy turbo for around $21k or a stock 07 for around same price?
mainly looking to see how reliability and maintenence and insurance will all add up if i get the one with the turbo. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
let me hear ur opinions please.. thanks
usmc320 01-10-2008, 10:35 AM So you found one at the dealership with a turbo and body kit? Ask if they will cover it under factory warranty or if they are going to void parts of the warranty because of the turbo. If they do say they will cover it, make sure you get it in writing. If you don't have to worry about the warranty coverage I would definitely go for it. But I have a feeling they won't cover those items affected by the turbo. I would probably go for it anyway just because after just a few months I am tending to get bored with how slow it is stock. And ,yes, I knew it wasn't that fast before I bought it. I just liked the style and functionality it had over other similar cars in that price range.
daisuke 01-10-2008, 10:39 AM an 05 with 17k miles stock would still have 2 years of warranty left on it, a turbo'd one most probably won't and I'm pretty sure they won't warranty it either.
The stock one will always be more reliable than the turbo one as well. If you happen to have the budget to take care of any damage that might happen then you should go for the turbo, it'll be more fun and sound a lot better too.
nycgps 01-10-2008, 10:39 AM Dont touch the one with Turbo installed. Cuz most of the Greddy guys were typical morons who came from the Civic group. install it, dont like it. and sold it (or messed something up in between)
Get the one stock 07.
staticlag 01-10-2008, 10:40 AM depends,
what EMU is installed?
What gauges are installed?
Does it look like some idiot installed it?
A turbo'ed 8 is a very good opportunity.
But as said, the greddy kit that comes from greddy sucks a big one.

it does not look like he can tell the differents between *idiot installed* or *professional installed*
It will be better to tell him forget about it.
turborx8 01-10-2008, 10:50 AM I bought my 05 with a greddy turbo kit and greddy sp2 exhaust.
There were no gauges installed. He was using the emanage blue, none of the "fixes" were performed but he only put a few thousand kilometres on the kit before putting it up for sale.
The ONLY thing you need to worry about is compression. Get the Mazda dealer to do a compression test on the engine. If the numbers are good, BUY IT!
Then you can spend a little more on gauges, interceptor-x ems, blow-off valve, and get the fixes done.
You will save a boat load of money by doing it this way.
italianman1987 01-10-2008, 11:14 AM ye its professionally done, the girl who owned it traded it in to the dealership and she works there, her husband did the mods and hes a machanic there.. so the car is in very good condition everything is well done, greddyturbo with borla and its a greddy emanage system they said he already programed it for good fuel ratio, interior has carbonfiber.. ill add some pics

Sounds really fishy, if the car is good and stuff why trade? Unless they have too much money to waste
interior has carbonfiber? I would love to see it, if they're talking about the Mazdaspeed Dash kit forget it then, those are *carbon fiber LIKE plastic* :lol2:
at least it has a boost gauge ... but what about the others? and Emanage Blue ... it already have good fuel ratio ? some people call *base map that came with the unit* has good fuel ratio. I suggest you to look at the stock 07.
italianman1987 01-10-2008, 11:25 AM well i dont know too much about the whole fuel/air management required with turbos.. but im learning, and they traded in two mazdas to buy a mercedes so shouldnt be too fishy.. but ill be caucious.. as far as the carbon fiber ur prob right bt looks good.. its on the doors and the center lower consol

wassup_nuthin 01-10-2008, 11:37 AM i know if it was me ide be all over the greddy one. if you plan on going turbo anyways why not if you go turbo later you have the same chance of things going wrong with it then... and you spent more money out of your pocket. but do get a compression check for sure
wassup_nuthin 01-10-2008, 11:38 AM its one bad@ss looking car. thats all i have to say
staticlag 01-10-2008, 04:00 PM Hmm, I'd get it, espically since its already turbo prepped and has the mazdaspeed body-kit.
I would take it for a test drive though, and run that baby all the way up to redline and keep it there for like 10 seconds. See if any smoke is behind your car when you are doing this.
If there is, then you will need the turbo rebuilt or replaced. Luckily MM has a kit for just this.
staticlag 01-10-2008, 04:01 PM i would also toss the emanage blue at the earliest convience and get the interceptor-x from mazport.
chetrickerman 01-10-2008, 04:17 PM get it checked out any way you can. if it all checks out, go for it. looks good. but try to get any warranty you can
Kgriner 01-11-2008, 11:13 PM I used to sell Mazdas, and if it has a turburo already installed, chances are that the warranty is toast!
Kgriner 01-11-2008, 11:14 PM Amen....
turborx8 01-11-2008, 11:22 PM Nice find!!!
How much are they asking for it? Hell even if the engine was toast it would still be a good deal.
The turbo, bodykit, wheels alone will cost a small forture and thats before you calculate the labor costs!
valpac 01-12-2008, 08:35 AM I would never buy a modded car. I really dont trust work that I didnt do/oversee myself.
c41250n 01-12-2008, 02:43 PM test drive it and see how it feels, also let it idle for a while and see if it idle fine.
faboo 01-13-2008, 03:04 AM since when have modded cars ADDED price at a DEALERSHIP...thats a bargaining tool to bring the price down...
unless they are willing to cover it of course....
wassup_nuthin 01-13-2008, 03:08 AM faboo is right. the dealer didnt give that guy anymore money on his trade w/ all the aftermarket parts. maybe 500 more then bb. i know i had a tib w/ over 5k invested and i got like700 more then bb. then in the paper the next week i saw it in ther for almost triple the norm price. so beat that price outa em. and get the TURBO!!
MazdaManiac 01-13-2008, 03:12 AM Hagerstown, huh?
I'd snatch it up.
kersh4w 01-13-2008, 01:39 PM that is a sweet deal, and only 1k more than what i paid for my (stock) rx8.
oh man.. i would have so totally bought that. haha! maybe i can go there and trade in my rx8 for that one. :lol2: i'd hurry and buy it, if i dont buy it, someone else surely will.
full ms kit = $2700
greddy kit = $3000
full cf interior from mazda = $someridiculous number
borla exhaust = $uh.. 1k-ish
damn.. that sucks. i want that car. :(
faboo 01-15-2008, 03:28 AM yea, that is a steal...
plus installed by a dealer mechanic...
GO FOR IT..or else give up the address lol
