RXtacy-8 06-12-2007, 04:53 AM **Yes Ive used the search feature, and done some additional research on the side. However im still somewhat lost.**
I just traded in for an 04 RX-8 2 weeks ago and im ready to upgrade to a CAI. Whats the best available intake on the market today? Ive done some looking around and I seem to be drawn between HKS and Revi. Any suggestions?
Thanks

wow, so now your calling us dumbasses! Your the one not using the search function!
Plus there exists more than two intakes for our car...
Digital_Damage 06-12-2007, 09:50 AM I honestly think the search function is becoming more useless as time goes on. If you search for intake you get 99.999% crap and .001% substance.
Skiptomylue 06-12-2007, 10:10 AM agreed to an extent,
most the time you can find what your looking for, but you still have to sift threw countless of pages sometimes to find the slightest bit of info..
S1lveRx8 06-12-2007, 10:21 AM I never understood why people get so upset at others for not using search and answering their own questions. However calling us dumbasses is not the way to fly. Sharing is caring:beerchug:

Coming into a forum a newbie, and within 4 posts calling an older member (someone who you are asking for help) a "dumbass" is NOT what you should be doing.....
It's like calling on the forces of nature for a cataclysmic disaster to happen right in your front yard....:spank:
SoFL_RX8 06-12-2007, 10:46 AM If you had actually searched you woldnt have any questions... this topic has been beat to death 1000 times over.
There is a stickiedthread called "Intakes, intakes, intakes"
How much easier do we need to make shit before people start doing their own leg work?
BTW buddy, if you searched you'll realize that any performance gains from an intake are negligable, so you should pick the one that you think sounds best.
Question answered. Problem solved. Try doing your own homwork next time, dumbass.

I'm going too have too agree with ny on this... I think from now on anytime anybody asks a dumb question without searching we should give them detrimental answers...
That way they'll break their 8's because they were in too much of a rush too go no where and then they'll buy another car making us 8 owners look like actual intelligent people...
AlphaDexter 06-20-2007, 02:08 PM Hello everybody, I am new here :) so take it easy on me... I bought my RX8 2004 automatic from the Mazda dealer in November 2006. This already came with the AEM cold air intake. I have been having a lot of problems with this car, since i bought it, they replaced the throttle body (said it would not close) i have very poor gas milage , between 230 - 260 KM / full tank since the start of this summer i get a lot of rattling / back fireing and "farting" kinda weird loud noises. Mazda is saying that all problems come from having this performance intake... How can that be ?? they say the straight pipe is creating vacuum and is sucking in the oil which screwes up the MAF sensor etc... they are advising me to buy the stock air intake ... (even thought i bought it from them like this :) ... ) . My worry and concern is this ... : how come other people have this intake as i see here and have no problems ? just worried that will spend lot's of money on this stock intake and it will still not get rid of a problem. When i hear those rattling noises car seems to have poorer performance , and also to mention when i drive it fresh in the morning it runs fine with lot's of power , when it get's hot all this starts happening .
Can any one comment please ? as well as if this is the wrong place to place this question i am sorry and please tell me where i can post this to get help.
Thank you all in advance .
VASasha 06-20-2007, 03:05 PM Seems like your MAF sensor is off. Make sure your intake is on tight. Check to see that the MAF sensor is clean. If all that is fine and you are still having problems, then it's something completely different.
P.S. make sure all your recalls have been done

well, i also disagree. i do not feel OEM is best. most of the other intakes out there will not lose you power, and most of them are lighter weight, therefore making the car's overall performance better. whether it is worth the money though may be a different story depending on your application.
MazdaManiac 06-20-2007, 09:31 PM So you didn't get it, either. Sigh...
sosonic 06-20-2007, 09:34 PM Odula intake duct + R-Magic air filter w/ stock box is nice.

I just wish somebody would come out with a knock off of the Odula design with a bigger inlet, but I like the overall design and concept and that it connects to the stock box.
So you didn't get it, either. Sigh...
so why dont you just say what you mean
MazdaManiac 06-20-2007, 10:34 PM so why dont you just say what you mean
Because there is no meaning in the explanation. If you and Team don't understand the irony of the statement, then explaining it won't give you any insight.

i will take a stab at this one..
somehow you find yourself posting your first thread here... not plausible..
post a photo.. then get a sound clip of the farting sound.. and also while you are at it figure out how to get a location in your identity....
and then if you can do any of that find the faq area and read the post by brillo..
happy trails.

SCSI - you need to look up "sarcasm" and then "irony" and see if you can understand the difference.
Team needn't bother because I know he doesn't understand angular resoning. He thinks linearly.

MazdaManiac 06-21-2007, 12:16 AM OK. Then let me rephrase that:
You represent yourself as being enrapt in linear thought.
Why you would do this is beyond me since it only minimizes your impact on the narrative.
Why someone would pretend to not get something and then turn right around and say they, in fact, do understand without any demonstrable insight is completely illogical.
But I guess that is your idea of "mysterious". It still dim to everyone else.

ur dealership is full of shit.
but at least they replaced the throttle body.
Take the AEM out, and try to reinstall it one more time. Cuz sometimes people who installed it could be a moron and fuck something up. it might seem right but still messed up. So take it out, reinstall it. just to make sure the install is good. if you dont know how to do it. find someone (a friend, give him a beer) who knows how to do it. it should not take more than an 2 hours. oh, make sure u clean the filter too.
then buy a can of MAF cleaner (any Electric cleaner will do) , keep the nozzle about 3 inches away from the MAF and spray the crap outa it.
let it sit dry (put it on a stack of old newspaper will dry it fast), install it back. and tell ur dealership that dont blame it on aftermarket parts.
Brettus 06-21-2007, 12:49 AM Mazda is saying that all problems come from having this performance intake... How can that be ?? they say the straight pipe is creating vacuum and is sucking in the oil which screwes up the MAF sensor etc....
That is pure BS right there .
The stock intake can suck oil into the intake as well . This can be caused by a couple of things :
One being at oil change when oil is pumped in too quickly after an oil change .
Other members have had it happen for other reasons I can't recall just now but suffice to say it is not your AEM intake that causes it .
SCSI - you need to look up "sarcasm" and then "irony" and see if you can understand the difference.
alright, i looked it up
Main Entry: sar·casm
Pronunciation: \ˈsär-ˌka-zəm\
Function: noun
Etymology: French or Late Latin; French sarcasme, from Late Latin sarcasmos, from Greek sarkasmos, from sarkazein to tear flesh, bite the lips in rage, sneer, from sark-, sarx flesh; probably akin to Avestan thwarəs- to cut
Date: 1550
1: a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain
2 a: a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual b: the use or language of sarcasm

eviltwinkie 06-21-2007, 08:54 AM All this talk about circular, angular, linear logic makes me appreciate my irrational logic even more...making sense sucks...
AlphaDexter 01-17-2008, 01:28 PM Ok, so after a long battle , changing the intake from the AEM to the OEM (stock) and still haveing a shit load of problems and mazda keeps doing stupid things like telling me i need a tunup ... well ... now they have put in the following (after my car would not start anymore ) : New RX8 engine , new higher RPM starter and higer power battery + plus the rest coils , sparkplugs etc.. so far so good ... 2nd day driving
Razz1 01-17-2008, 10:08 PM You need at least one of the stock screens in the intake. No way to use the stock screen w/ your intake. You's can't buy a screen.
If you feel you are SUCKING.............
Then do the bypass mod for the air cleaner. I'm not eve sure you have a port for that.
Take the hose from the oil filler neck that runs into the intake and disconnect. Put a filter on the end of it and a rubber plug on the air intake tube.
No more oil on the MAF sensor.
Read up. All rotories back fire occassionaly at idle.
If it's really bad change the plugs.

Somebody has read a book!
Jenn Jenn's RX8 03-25-2010, 03:27 PM Ok, i've looked all over and cant find anything about the stock intakes on this car! I'm having some serious problems and litterally everyone in Tulsa has basically just told me "I'm sorry, good luck with that" when i tell them what is going on. My car has had the check engine light on for a while now, when i read the codes it tells me that it has something to do with the intake! Symptoms are; when the motor is cold and i get into high RPM's the car completely loses power as far as it feels like i shift way down and am not pushing the gas, it makes kind of a louder noise out of the exhaust when it is warm and i get into higher RPM's, it has problems starting when it has rained a lot and it has been sitting through the rain for a day or more, AND to top it all off last night i was driving down the highway and the car lost power and the check engine light started blinking at me! Can anyone so much as suggest anything???????? It would be great help! I dont know much about the engines but i need the problem fixed and i dont trust my mazda dealer! Prices are too high and they are ridiculous with fixing things!
Brettus 03-25-2010, 03:47 PM /\ are there any other owners in your area that could help you ?
Jenn Jenn's RX8 03-27-2010, 11:27 PM Unfortunately if there are any other owners i would not know how to get ahold of the right one! Anyone that owns one around here just takes theirs to the dealer! But i'm thinking from doing some research that it may be the seals, which if it is then i'm just gonna get a whole new engine and start working on it myself after i have my baby! Not cheap but I think it will be well worth my time! I would kinda like to pull one of them apart and see what i can do anyway! Maybe i'll try to get one for Christmas... lol! : D
redcopper06 03-28-2010, 07:49 AM the current search blows...
if you search for intake, you get just about every thread on the board because people put the word intake in their signature, so you get all threads they post in
