View Full Version : Car insurance chris168 01-30-2007, 06:04 PM Hi, anyone can recommend me a good car insurance for this car? darkelfin 01-30-2007, 09:13 PM for cheap insurance, there's really only one around, NTUC. but you probably heard of all the stories with ntuc what with own limited workshops, hard claims etc. but tat said, i believe most of the ppl here are with ntuc. Silver_Z 01-30-2007, 09:26 PM mine is $950 with NTUC. chris168 01-30-2007, 09:43 PM This car is under my wife's.... NCD 30% premium 1668 excess 1500 .... reasonable aShrIn 02-03-2007, 10:47 AM Seriously?? I've heard romours that the govt actually reviewed the 8 and said that it was 3.7k!!!! Please tell me this is not true... Could you guys share how much is the insurance rate currently as i'm 23 this year. Thanks guys... lawreo 02-03-2007, 10:59 AM hi if you are 23 yrs old and first time driver with 0 NCD, i seriously think that your insurance will be low for any car check with NTUC, i think they will give you a quote within a minute. just call in. i will not be surprised it is more than 2.5k at least. one way is to use your parent's name with older age and higher NCD. good luck and drive safe BlackEight 02-03-2007, 11:26 AM mine is $950 with NTUC. yo bro, u still can sqeeze some more juice out of NTUC. call them n tell them u want to go direct wif them n not thru a broker +5% and if u 2 years plus wif them , can haggle for loyalty discount another 5%. by rite is 3 years but by left if u manja wif them, 2 yr plus oso can get I'm paying $824 for my 2nd yr insr. 50% NCD + 10%. Excess $1500 I even asked wat if i have good driver record from TP, still got disc? I got a feeling they wanted to slam down on me liao but politely told me that's the max liao. sqflyer 02-03-2007, 03:07 PM if you are 23 yrs old and first time driver with 0 NCD, i seriously think that your insurance will be low for any carI think you meant the insurance will be high for any car. Like you said, alternatively can register the car under parents name. Don't think can transfer NCD, right? So eventually still need to build up NCD for oneself, but should do it with a vehicle that is cheaper to insure so don't lose as much to insurance co. lawreo 02-03-2007, 08:11 PM I think you meant the insurance will be high for any car. Like you said, alternatively can register the car under parents name. Don't think can transfer NCD, right? So eventually still need to build up NCD for oneself, but should do it with a vehicle that is cheaper to insure so don't lose as much to insurance co. this is true ...the main issue here is his age...once he reaches 30 (or 31), the premium will be slightly lower. However the NCD still plays a major part. Anyway, if rich enough to buy 8 at 23, then should not have problem paying the insurance lah ..hehe me still struggling with studies when i was at 23 ...damn the FYP :cussing: allen 02-04-2007, 07:31 PM yes. NCB can be transferred. i transfer my mum NCB to me of 50% and i am paying about $1300+ for it. Maybe i am 27/28 age thats why more exp. Now my mum got zero NCB. hahah lawreo 02-04-2007, 08:32 PM yes. NCB can be transferred. i transfer my mum NCB to me of 50% and i am paying about $1300+ for it. Coz your age is considered young driver (until you reach 26), so confirm will be higher than normal. And if you have a short driving experience of less than 3 years, it will not work well for you. gfoo 02-12-2007, 10:06 PM just got my insurance letter today,,,,, nahmia ntuc increased it from 1100 to 1750 - and all i did was have some minor scrapes here and there only ---- bloody shylocks RX-EGG 02-13-2007, 09:38 AM haha old man buy personnel insurance is more X, but come to RX-8 insurance is CHEAP CHEAP...mine is $750 NTUC after 55% NCD wolf 02-13-2007, 06:41 PM RX_EGG: Wow! Apparently, according to my 2 insurance broker, theres only 3 insurance company locally will quote for an 8. AIG, AXA n NTUC. AIG needs the driver to posses 30% NCD. Choices super limited loh. Also, my dealer + 2 other insurance broker advise me against NTUC. its definitely the cheapest though. Any tots? tks wolf 02-26-2007, 08:35 AM Go for NTUC if you want cheap coz it's "No Trouble Until Claims" company (for motor insurance). :P Coz my previous workshop guy told me that they don't like NTUC claims coz always very slow. Worse one is China Insurance. As for the other 2, didn't hear anything bad except that AIG is expensive. So ultimately, it is up to you. :) INXS 02-26-2007, 02:03 PM My 5 cents worth. As a consumer point of view, we wanna make the most of our money(least). Whether or not the workshop likes the insurer or not, its not our problem. Isnt it so? There are plenty of workshops that are hooked up with NTUC and definitely, if youre worrying tt there wont be anyone entertaining your needs, is unfounded. Then again, if youre doing a 3rd party claim .. im sure many will welcome you with arms wide open. Imperatively, rx8 is a mass produced car where parts are commonly available. (Correct me if im wrong though) where any Tom Dick and Derek can easily access to the OEM parts, so no worries.. choose NTUC. Hahaha. allen 02-26-2007, 07:23 PM NTUC spokesman...... - Strip sticker sponsor by NTUC.... SushiFan 02-27-2007, 03:11 PM Have recently asked AIG (the insurance I'm on) for a quote in order to do my sums for buying 1 Rx8 (soon hopefully). I'm 28 with 50% NCD. Update you guys in a day or 2 when they come back with the quote but through the phone, they muttered something they deem this to be performance car and likley to be high, don't think the myth that insurers treat the 8 as a 4 door car exist any more? INXS 02-27-2007, 05:41 PM Not with AIG. het 02-27-2007, 08:37 PM Its been days and i've so far only receive quotes from AXA and NTUC. tink AIG is hesistant to quote or something........ I talked to them and they said delivering a Red 8 this thurs.. can share with us the price and specs? thanks SushiFan 03-14-2007, 11:33 AM Garage R sent me a quote for the 6AT today via email. Can forward to it if you want. PM me your email. tincup 03-15-2007, 08:20 AM Sorry guys, just got back from Brussels.... You are right Bro Eisho, the red 8 at Garage R is mine.... Collecting it tomorrow...... In case you need to know.... here's the skinny on my 8 Price paid : 97k OMV : 30k COE : 12.6k Comes with Bose sound system and keyless entry and some other stuff thrown in... All in, I don't think it's that bad a deal. Not the cheapest, but the higher OMV & COE does balance it out. However, I think the 2 key factors that are more important are: 1) the service has been excellent and they delivered when they said they would deliver, in short, I can trust them to deliver on their word 2) the workshop behind it is well equipped to handle all the servicing and maintenance, which you can't get with many of the other PIs. Just my 2 cent's worth, but I don't know if I got the cheapest deal around, but I do know that I've compared around and it's about average, but more importantly, it was a good buying experience. For bros who are thinking of getting an 8 and do not want to face the horror stories we have all heard about the other PI's I'd strongly recommend Garage R. Just go look for June or her sister Lee. After I wrote back to clarify some figures and mentioned to them what I really wanted was a very basic 8 hur... I'm still waiting for their reply. In any case, are you comfortable with the 1 year warranty? I did ask them if they have option to increase warranty with premium but they said dont have. And yes.... finally getting my 8 on thursday :ylsuper: I just renew my NTUC insurance today at the Branch offices. I went there cos I would like to find ways to lower my insurances. Initial I was paying $1690 with 20% NCB and $1500 excess The lady told me that I can get an additional of 5% if I sign a letter stating that I do not want the Agent. and additional of 8% if I take an additional $500 excess (so total excess will be $2000). Next year can get another 5% for staying with them for 3 years. I paid $1480 (20% NCB, so if with out NCB the actual premium is $1850) Forgot to mention, I'm 32 years old. So I believe that if u are 34years old and with 50%NCB. Your NTUC insurance can't and should not be higher than mine. SushiFan 03-23-2007, 10:41 AM morganoh, catch no ball with your insurance renewal, sounds really complicated....but I guess you still got it cheaper and that's more important? morganoh 03-23-2007, 11:08 PM morganoh, catch no ball with your insurance renewal, sounds really complicated....but I guess you still got it cheaper and that's more important? OK here I go again. What I had for last year NTUC insurance. Though an agent. Excess of $1500. Actual Premium = $2113, with 20% NCB = $1690 NOW Sign a letter to bypass the agent. (cos Agent earn 5% of my premium) Now the insurance is NTUC selling directly to Me no agent in between. So the premium is $1690 - 5% = $1605 (save $85) and I increase my excess from $1500 to $2000, for that another 8% deduction on the premium So the premium is $1605 - 8% = $1478 (save $127) In conclusion the final Premium I paid is $1478 (saving a total of $212) for an insurance at 32 years old with 20% NCB and an excess of $2000. Maybe its becos, few days or weeks ago, the Straits Time came out with an article stating that Insurance company are losing money in the motor industry . and they are all going to raise the premium, it order to cover back the losses. But up till now no company had done so, as everyone is waiting for someone to Start 1st. So the only thing NTUC can do now is not to give any furthur discount. Thats what I think, may not be true. So if it's really a minor claim, no one in his/her correct sense of mind would proceed with such a claim against his/her own insurance and affect their NCD, correct me if I'm wrong. And if it's a major claim, longer claim time wouldn't be much of a factor since the car should technically take a longer time to repair...my 5 cents worth. Goody 06-03-2007, 07:03 PM Thats what I think, may not be true. Thanks for your comments. I think it is a matter of time the insurance companies will increase the premium .......... at least for now their first step is not to give anymore "by-pass" discount !? I would reccomend you to go back to the person who told you that there is such an offer. That's the only way to clarify your doubt. Choco 06-04-2007, 10:05 AM Thanks bro... I know that. Sometimes it's not abt how low the premium is but whether ur claims can work (if you knw what i mean). just my 3 cents worth:) Vanquish 06-21-2007, 01:34 PM Ahhh... interesting thread (coz I doing insurance... heh heh... )... Anyway, some background, I have been with AIA for 8+ years and am a tied agent with AIG. However, at the same time I currently work with a insurance broker to provide motor insurance quotations from about 8-9 other insurance companies to provide a wide range of choices for my clients... While I do not focus on motor insurance as my main line of income, I do transact about 6-8 motor insurance deals per month... More interestingly, I've recently brokered a deal with one of the main insurers in Singapore to provide a special discounted package for Rav-4 cars in Singapore. i.e., Rav4 owners who get their motor insurance through us will get a cheaper rate than when quoting through other brokers from the same company... The insurer in this scheme is already currently one of the main insurer for Rav4 cars in Singapore and I would say for about 80% of the time, they provide the cheapest rate and with this new scheme, the insurance premiums for Rav4 cars under this scheme would be truly rock-bottom! (Not those who charge high den say give discount blah blah blah...). BTW, this Rav4 scheme should kick-start in about 2-3 weeks time when we finalise all details... :) I can try to broker another deal for the RX8 owners in Singapore but the insurers would expect a certain take-up rate, i.e. we have to hit a certain number of cars... at the same time, NTUC is currently already have very good premium rates for RX8 cars and would be hard to fight... but I do not mind trying to see if we could get a deal out of this if Singapore members in this forum would support this scheme if I ever get it hammered out... Maybe a show of support would be good... anyone for it? :) Thanks! mkl22 06-21-2007, 08:40 PM yup lets see what deal we can get SushiFan 06-22-2007, 08:55 PM yes I would be keen too. BTW, anyone knows what's the current market rate for the RX8 by NTUC for 30 year old @ 20% NCD? |
