$10?
that kind of defeats the purpose of this meet.

why am I getting a case of deja vu?
I think this meet was originally started so that people could venture out, see some old friends, meet new one, and enjoy a quality meal that is different from something you can eat just about any other day.
This isn't to say that we're all heading down to Morton's but it really shouldn't be a $10 meal either.

First thing is to rule out what's already been done:
- Asian has been well covered but is typically popular
- Italian? don't think I've seen this yet
- Brazilian: CHECK. such delicious food.
- American: ?

we need ideas.

+1 w/jedi

maybe i'm wrong about what this meet was originally about.

$10 i can eat all i want at a buffet or a burger joint but that's typically **** for anybody. I figured that the purpose would be just as jedi said - venturing out and trying something new.

As for ideas of different places here's some that i've thought of:

- Indian Food
- Persian Food
- Thai Food (not to be associated with 'Asian food')
- Hawaiian Food
- Soul Food (real SOUL food - not just roscoe's)

I'm thinkin' along the lines of real soul food because if everybody is willing and able to kick down some bucks my former caretakers (foster parents) used to cook AMAZING SOUL FOOD. I'm talkin' about real bbq ribs, steaks, cornbread, pigs feet, grits, creamed spinich etc. They are older folks but they're damn good cooks.

Anyways, just throwin' out ideas...

Persian food can be quite good. My old boss was Egyptian and he took me down to this place Ferdussi which used to be down the street from South Coast.
I'll admit: some of the food looked quite odd but I was feeling adventerous and it paid off. Food was awesome!

soul food: can't say I've ever had real soul food.

Hawaiian food: Hawaiian bbq?

Jedi: i know it's called 'hawaiian food' but technically it's a spin off of 'island food'. Lets face it - i didn't get this big from eating mac n' cheese. Hawaiian bbq is good but there's also a lot of other dishes like kalua pork, chop suey (island style), loco moco's, pisupo, sweet pork buns, musubi's etc. lots n' lots of stuff My family (including myself) can make a bunch of this stuff.

and dude...i think i know what you're talking about (persian restuarant). I think i've gone there once. Was it by a chick-filet?? If so, that place is AWESOME!!! i've been dying to go back. Last time i was there was over a year ago - i hope it's still around.

Real Soul food puts people to sleep...that's how you know it's pretty good. the bbq ribs put me to bed no matter what time of the day it is If we wanna try, i could swing by their place and ask em' if they were up to cooking for group of people.
