Taking my 8 to San Diego April 5-8

I'm taking my 8 to San Diego in a couple of weeks for a little vacation. I'm planning on doing some fishing, drinking, and eating if any of you would like to join me. Could someone suggest some good roads out there? Any part shops I should check out?

I would really like to see a turbo 8 if any locals have one. Would gladly buy the owner some drinks for letting me take a look or better yet give me a ride

Ok, these roads are in La Jolla, but they're very nice. You should definitely drive down La Jolla Shores Drive, down from N. Torrey Pines Road toward the shore, very nice view, until you're nearly up to downtown La Jolla, which is a good place to walk along the coast, see the seals, etc. You can also drive north instead on Torrey Pines Road until Del Mar, which has another nice roadside view of the ocean.

The best secluded, windy roads to drive on that I know in the San Diego area are on the way to the more out of the way indian casinos like Valley View, which are about 30 mins north of La Jolla, but if you get a slow poke in front of you, it's no fun at all.

The best drive in Cali has to be PCH starting north of the LA area until the end. I would live to drive the whole thing with my 8 one time, or maybe a Lotus Elise

Here's a pretty nice ride: Take the 5 Freeway North from San Diego, to the Via De La Valley Offramp in Del Mar. Go East on Via De La Valley (It is also posted SR 6) and follow it inland - turn right at Del Dios Hwy (still SR6) which turns into Valley Parkway in the town of Escondido. This is a very pretty route, takes you past some Million Dollar homes, as well a Lake Hodges. Just about a mile or two after the road turns into Valley Parkway, take the 15 Freeway North.

Continue North on the 15 Freewayfor about 10 miles, to the Central/Riverside Exit in Lake Elsinore. Go West on Central to Riverside, West on Riverside to Hwy 74 (also known as the "Orgega Highway". Go West on Ortega Hwy - a very entertaining drive. Take it until it ends at the 5 Freeway in San Juan Capistrano. Then, just take the 5 freeway back to San Diego.

This would be a nice weekend drive - but on a weekday, or anytime, I would start my drive about 10 AM to allow rush hour traffic to calm down. There are several scenic spots to take pics, and plenty of places to stop and eat along the way. Your halfway point is when you are in the town of Escondido - before taking the 15 North.

Have a great visit!

Take Hwy 78 to Julian, stop for apple pie, then head down Banner Grade Road which will take you on a long stretch into the desert. You'll eventually connect to Hwy 8, which, if you head west, will take you back to San Diego. Should be able to see some desert blooms, and the grade into the desert is virtually deserted, allowing you to really open up your 8 for some fun!

I grew up here, so any other info you might need, PM me. Enjoy your stay in our fair city!

A drive to Cabrillo National Monument is always nice and shouldn't be missed http://www.nps.gov/cabr/home.html

Yeah, I nearly forgot about the drive to Julian. That one is pretty nice drive, very windy, plus the apple pie.

You HAVE to drive down Banner grade. Take 78 to Julian, come back down 78 to Santa Ysabel where you turn right onto 79 North. 10 miles down the road, take SR-22. 5 miles further down the road, take a left at the sign that tells you to head to Anza-Borrego. A few miles down the road (once you pass Ranchita) the fun starts. Go down and back up Banner grade on a weekday and you should get lucky and not get stuck behind slow traffic. Alternately, if you get out early, hit the road first and then go to Julian to eat apple pie and reminisce. There'll be less traffic on Banner grade earlier in the day.

Here's the map of Banner grade: http://tinyurl.com/5ztwj

And here's a zoomed out map showing you Julian, Santa Ysabel, Ranchita, etc.: http://tinyurl.com/5h2ql

Have fun!
