When I was a kid my Dad used to punish me for two things. First for doing what ever I did wrong, and second for getting caught. Now I'm sure guys like Samsonite here will feel compelled to argue the second point. The bottom line that he was teaching me was, if you are stupid enough to do it in the first place, at least think about what you are doing and try not to get caught. Case in point, you get a speeding ticket because, as you say, you were speeding. If you are going to speed...at least get a radar detector. Oh yeah, and be willing to check your rearview mirrors a couple of time every...uh...hour?

Let me add a quick note. Using phrases like, "...get over it, ...not only is your arguement bassless, its moronic." only leads to flames which I'm sure we didn't come here for.

I am tired of people getting caught for speeding and getting pissed. bottom line is, if you are going to speed, take it to the track. Do not endanger others with your small ego's.

If you are man enough to do the crime, you are man enough to do the time. Case in point, you get caught speeding, pay the fine and learn where it is safe to speed (track) or just don't do it. That is what my dad taught me. I did not learn to cheat the law (radar detector, which most police agency's do not use).

I guess times have changed.

First Samsonite, on the personal level. How about using your spell check before you post. Your spelling and punctuation is terrible!

Second, I'm tired of the self-righteous people like yourself that believe others ought to get in line when I'd bet if we put a camera on you for forty-eight hours you'd be breaking laws every few minutes. Are you going to tell us that when you get on the freeway in your "Italian" you haven't taken it up past the speed limit only to slow back down after you've gotten in your lane?

And third, you might borrow a radar detector someday from someone and just see who is and isn't using radar. CHP, County Sheriff, and city Police all do. I don't know what tiny world you live in, but your advice is just too lofty for me.

third. I have a v-1 for all my cars. CHP, at least the ones that nail me, have not had it on, I was shadowed. No tickets ever in the other car or the 8. Only in the explorer. weird.

I have no beef with you. I am still annoyed from a AZ driver that was boasting that he was racing another 8 at 120 on the freeway.

70 in a 50 is kinda bad. 120 in an 65 is stupid.

If it is your first ticket within 18 months then you qualify for traffic school. Unless you go to court. I was told by the court lady that if I contest the ticket *and* found to be guilty, then I cannot go to traffic school anymore --> I'd get a point --> insurance.

72 in a 50 zone - maybe $200. It's part of the cost of owning an RX-8. Consider it a badge of honor.

Got radar trapped on an LA surface street (Rosemead, near the 605 and 60). The fine for 52 in a 45 was $181, plus traffic school. Kinda makes up for the undetected 123 nb on the 395 to Yosemite, so I'm not complaining.

This is the thing that galls me -- they tack on a penalty for exercising your right to trial. How un-American can you get? I have no problem with paying if I get cited for exceeding the limit and was speeding. No problem. I'm not going to try to weasel out because the cop wrote "RX-6", or wasn't wearing his hat, or had onion breath... But I hate the way the system uses insurance costs to bully those who may actually have a legitimate reason for asking for a trial. "If you plead innocent we're going to whack you on the head with this desklamp...."

So, you understand why I'm trying to argue the points and not the payment. I feel I should pay, I'll try to reduce that amount but I do expect to pay but I just don't want my insurance to punish me for the next few years.

we'll see what happens, at least I can try and that's as american as it can get I'm still proud to be an american!!!

Alex, your insurance company will not be present during your court appearance. Therefore, anything you can do to get the ticket removed is more important that just getting your fine reduced. If you are still fined by the court for speeding, you will be assessed points and your insurance company will use those points against you. Your best bet is to try to argue that there is something wrong with the way the officer was doing his job. Don't try to attack the technology of the radar unit. That is tried and true. You are looking for human error. That carries more weight.

Here are some points that you might investigate.

1) Was the stretch of road certified for radar use? If so, when was the last test performed? this can be found by contacting the CalTrans Engineering Department. They may give you directions on who conducted the study and how long ago was it performed.

2) Subpoena the tickets given out by the officer prior to your ticket. You will be looking for tickets that are for the exact speed that you were cited for. This could represent a cop that didn't clear his radar unit prior to you running the gauntlet. This is very important if the ticket is for a nicely rounded number over the limit. EVen so, you can argue to the judge that the couple of tickets prior to yours were for exactly the same speed. That being true, it stinks of a cop playing games.

3) When you go to court, spend the time to wear a suit and tie! If you go to the traffic court a couple of days in advance to see what you'll be up against, you'll notice how the low lifes dress. Remember, the judge is an educated person. His opinion is swayed by all kinds of things, not to mention the physical appearance of the defendant. YOU dress like a ricer and you will loose like a ricer. The court is not the place to profile for the others, it is a place where the educated pass judgement on others. If you appear to be within the system, you will be treated as such.
