SoCal Cops cracking down on modded cars
In california there are 2 main ways to get nailed and a third more random way.
1) loud annoying fart can exhaust will draw the attention of a cop and he will have you open your hood and if you have modifications you will be sent to the state referee for a smog inspection and you will have to put your car back to stock or legel mods before passing.
2) no catalytic converter will fail one of the road side sniffers and then you get pulled into the test station of get a letter and sent to a test only center.
So keep some sort of cat on your car if they have one of those road side sniffers and no fart can exhaust. If you do these 2 simple things your odds of not getting NAILED goes way up.
There is a third way to get nailed, do anything illegal, get pulled over and the cop asks you to open the hood, you have to say yes by law. If you have illegal mods, and you cant talk your way out of it then your off to the referee.
Oh, the referee thing is bad, not only do you have to fix everything but the ticket carries a fine that you have to pay even after you pass the test, unless you fight the ticket and win.
Now is this fair? Well the enforcement is trying to reduce street racing by using emmisions laws, you break the law and you deserve a ticket. I drive around with an illegal car and I know it. if I get a ticket, I deserved it. Does it redece street racing and save lives? Might make more defference on emission then street racing. As mentioned, street racers will use any car to race and giving them tickets wont likly change there behavior. Street racing kills and I support the cops for trying anything they can.

Either way, unless you get sniffed the AP will allow you pass every time because it disables all the emissions CEL's which would cause you to fail. The testing station will plug in their computer, see no CEL's and pass you without using the rollers.
At least in AZ, cars made after 1998 don't even use the dyno they just check your OBD for check engine lights.

So with road side sniffers and these kinds of things being done, does anyone know how Cali cops handle out of state drivers?
Seeing as I'll be passing through to go to sevenstock I wouldn't be surprised that I would be stopped seeing as I have managed to get pulled over during every road trip this year. I've been stopped for a loud exhaust and window tint...neither resulted in a ticket and neither have ever been issues for Phoenix or AZ police.
Just curious if anyone knows.
