SoCal Cops cracking down on modded cars
"Over the last three years, Showalter said he has worked with officers from the Ontario and Irwindale police departments, training more than 2,000 officers in Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside counties to spot illegal modifications on cars, which is one of the main ways officers target street racers"
The quote above is part of a larger article in today's L.A. Times. ( The full article can be found on the main web page and in the California/Local section. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la...3.story?page=1) There was a tragic and what has been described as "gruesome" street racing accident in the Eagle Rock area last night. Accidents happen regardless of your speed but no one won this street race last night! Be safe! |
yeah those dumbasses keep picking on modded cars. I think the civic racers with huge fartcan exhausts have more to worry about then us.

Buddy of mine hit one of those and pulled out his emanage. Car would not run once they put it on the dyno, he called AAA and had it towed 1 block away just out of view. Then drove it away. No letter, no word. |
 time to put the Access Port back into the glove box.
|
^ I hit one of those traps, but it was on a freeway ramp
there was a white van with what looks like a radar gun on the road after that I got a letter stating my car won't pass smog etc etc and that I have to join this blue pacific group shit and make my car legal again or else she's gonna be permanently put in the system. whatevers :) |
freeway ramp? are you serious....
|
Yes, taht is the common method.
|
Dyno Day anyone?
|
gives me another reason not to drive my car..haha

What absolute nonsense. I agree that the accident is terrible but it's sick how the media and police are really quick to report the accident as "street racing" cause it makes headlines and angers the public.
What the result is, is police going after modified vehicles which normally are legally modified and the drivers are not breaking the law. Even if they are, there needs to be more reasoning other than their vehicle being "modified". I've looked a lot into research here in Arizona in particular and my biggest argument has been that law enforcment isn't proporational to the crimes. We have a huge DUI problem here along with loads of out of town drivers in Phoenix but instead police worry about the few dozen street racing accidents that happen every year. I don't support street racing, but I don't agree with the crackdown that myself and other drivers face simply because we "might" street race our car. The major element police miss is that the people out street racing are the SAME people every single weekend. They would race their mom's mini-van if it came to that. Suspended license, no tags, or even using someone elses car...nothing will stop these people short of throwing them in jail or breaking their knee caps. It's just sad that in Cali you can't enjoy your vehicle like everyone else does. Having exhaust or an intake gets you nailed for emissions even when you have proof they are carb legal...wheels, tires, or even gauges or tint get you busted. It's coming to Arizona sooner or later and it's going to be a hard fight to win when it does. |
Good thing I'm still 100% legal.

No letter, no word. It might be possible to load that map quickly since the new AP firmware loads maps in about a minute.. Either way, unless you get sniffed the AP will allow you pass every time because it disables all the emissions CEL's which would cause you to fail. The testing station will plug in their computer, see no CEL's and pass you without using the rollers. At least in AZ, cars made after 1998 don't even use the dyno they just check your OBD for check engine lights. |
^ AP good! :naughty:
|
learn to load the Valet map REALLY quickly on your AP. :)
|
Around where i live they actually have stops on the side of the road and randomly test cars...sometimes i zoom past (doing the speed limit of course) its annoying
