SF Bay Area: Open invite

murix has a new set of Racing Beat springs and sway bars he wants to install on his RX-8. We will be doing this at my house in Hayward next Saturday (6/26) starting at 1pm. If you are interested in learning how it's done, want to kibbitz, etc, just PM me for contact info and directions.

Bringing snacks, drinks (alchoholic or regular), whatever is not necessary but always appreciated.

I'd be all over it since you are so close, but I already promised my friend that I would help him install his intake manifold on his Spec V. Might for for a canyon carving run to test out any performance gains once we are done. But good luck with the install.

I was planning on coming by but I probably won't. My dog had to go to the emergency vet tonight. He's in surgery right now, not doing well at all. He has a tumor on his spleen. I just got home. I'll probably be sleeping tomorrow (today) in the afternoon. I hope it's not cancer cause then he won't last long. and he hasn't even been for a ride in my 8 yet.

So how was the install?

I'm anxious to know how it all went?! How the car feels...tighter? little rougher?

I appreciate all the help guys and for letting us use your place PUR NRG.

With the limited time I have put in driving it home on the highways and over some rough roads it really does not feel any worse in terms of ride quality over stock. I have not had a chance to really open it up to give an honest opinion on how much better it feels in terms of handling but intial feel is firm and smooth. I will give it some time to let the springs settle.

Cheers

Had a spirited 3 hour drive through the country side and mountains today to test things out. I managed to cover all terrain from fast sweepers to slow banked turns.

The car is very neutral though it is time for new tires. It used to push where now it turns in very well. I had the rear end step out only once which I controlled very well in a fast sweeper. I have no tcs/dsc and this was a safe area with good visibility. I wanted to get a good feel for how it handles when pushed like I would on the track. The height really is only about .5" lower though it might settle more. I measured it at 15" today where it was 15.5" yesterday.

The ride is as smooth as stock with slightly more firmness which feels very good to me. The stock struts seem to work very well so far though it is only one day of spirited driving. I would go so far to say you would not even know it is modified unless you pushed it hard in the corners where it has much better response. The springs are definitely not for those interested in looks before function though I would not mind myself if it dropped it .5" more.

Alignment still seems to be spot on as well.

I am very happy with the end results. Next is changing the tires over to Kuhmo Ecsta MX in a 245/40 and then I have a track day at Thunderhill coming up next month. I have been on Thunderhill with the car completely stock which was fun but had push in the front at the limit. I will really get to tell the difference all the suspension bits make on my next time out.

Minor trivia: the ride height murix mentions is measured from the center of the wheel hub to the bottom of the fender. That's usually considered a good way to measure since tire pressure and other factors can affect measurments from the ground to fender.

Prior to install we measured and found the left front was lower than the right, and the rear was not even to the front. Immediately after RB spring install it was even all around--although 15.5" is stock ride height.

Talking 15.5?!
