Nice! Congrats on the X3 Jorge!

How are you liking it so far? I thought you'd get something bigger- like an X5 or something- since you're used to bigger size SUV's like the Explorer....

Nice color too!

I'm LOVING it so far to be honest. I've always been a huge fan of the X5 which is why I even considerd the 3 but to be honest I found that the X5 is just too big for me. 90% of the time I go anywhere I'm by myself.
On the rare ocassion I have a co-pilot it's usually Emilie and the X5 would have just been over-kill for us since there's no kids anywhere in my future.

The Explorer was great and I'll miss the 4 wheel drive and huge cargo space but going slightly smaller & sportier was what I was going for on this purchase. Besides, the AWD system is a nice little trade off
This is now my daily commuter car. Talk about roughing it...
And as far as the color... it was my top choice.

The X is for the X-drive which is AWD. I didn't know that either till I started researching them.

The best feature on that thing is the enormous panoramic sunroof.
I still have issues with the interior though, the giant / goofy looking stereo unit drives me nuts. It's too plain and a waste of space.
Oh, and why is the door unlock button above the stereo unit and next to the hazard button? Shouldn't it be near the door like in all other cars?

Is this your first German car? You have to remember that Germans tend to be huge people with long, overly stuffed arms..so they have to put switches as far from the seat so they don't get arm cramps.

Asian cars need switches as close to the driver as possible, for obvious reasons.

first German car I've owned though I grew up around them all my life. (that's what happens when your uncle owns the largest MB dealership in the state)
I remember learning to drive in my dad's 1973 280 SEL Mercedes with a huge 4.5L V8. That thing was a TANK but once you got it moving, it hauled ***.
Must be the part of Germany where these damn Bimmer engineers come from because MB always managed to put things in the right place..

hahahaha... totally true keith

well, i think that the driving experience of a bmw is truly what they say- ie the ultimate driving machine. BUT, bmw has done a lotta things over the past 10 years that have become rather annoying...

for one, they've forgotten how to leave "good enough" alone. honestly, the e46 generation 3 series had THE most simple and elegant console. if anything, the only thing i would've changed is maybe- maybe- put the door lock switch on the door handle. but, everything else was near perfect- ie the controls are easy to find and easy to figure out. all the new little tweaks they've done- ie relocating the cupholders, modifying the console in the way Jorge described etc. are just stupid gimmicky things that add very little value to the enjoyment of the car. and, actually some things are less logical and less elegant than before. (hint: honda?)

second, they've watered down their brand name by choosing to flood the market with vehicles and they haven't kept quality control up. i know that "sales numbers" is the ultimate goal to a company's survival. but, there's got to be some kind of a better balance... i mean, if i wanted a toyota or honda, i would've bought one and can then see one at every intersection, corner, and parking lot. but, if u want something slightly better- slightly more class, slightly more presitgious then what's the point if ever abled-bodied teenager, grandma, or FOB with a few thousand bucks down payment and $400/ month of daddy's money can cart around in a leased german car? lol...

that said, i'm still lusting after a blue e92 M3 tho... :P hehehehe

yes leasing and product quality changes have made the BMW more available.

Funny on top gear, they said that Audi has replaced BMW in the market of prestigous, high quality.....

..have you looked into Audi at all? I was looking at the S4 when I was looking at buying a car...ended up with the RX8....but I liked the Audi's back in 04....and I like the way they've taken their styling and like them even more now.

BMW hasn't done much with the 3 series to keep up with the styling changes they've implemented on the 5, 6 and 7 series...heck even the SUVs are getting the new styling.....but the work horse, the lease horse 3 series is still getting that bland, honda/toyota feel.

nope, LA.
He sold it a while back but growing up it was fun to see all the celebrities that came by the dealership to look at cars / buy them.
I remeber him telling me he got a phone call from Harrison Ford one day wanting to buy a 500 SEL and how he just put the whole thing on his Amex card and then one of the managers to the dealership drove the car to Harrison Ford's house and they left the paperwork in the car for him to sign and mail back.

Audi as really stepped up their game the past few years. 10 years ago I'd never have considered buying one but these days they're making some amazing cars that not only look good but have the performance to match. (buying Lambo helped with the 2nd half of that)
I'm actually trying to talk Emilie's dad into buying an Audi.

Jedi just felt left out of the whole LA meet, BMW movement :P The wheels on the X3 sure do look small.

I too looked at A4/S4 when I was looking at the RX8...now I want the A5/S5 if a few years.

^^^ seriously, FC's are the worst!
I always try and time my exit from the Tattoo shop to ensure that I've got an 8 in front of me and an RX8 behind me. Although some of the socal guys are running catless but it's still not as bad as the 7's

Atikins knows their stuff though so he should be in good shape once that car is broken in.
have him swing by and meet Steve so he can have a place to dyno his car once he's ready.
