Any chance I could pay the entry and get in the raffle even if I don't show up? 6pm in Chino Hills during the week ain't gonna happen for me...

Got to be there to win... No reason you could not show late. I think the first 30-60 min is just eating and chit chat.

In SP classes you can run a spoiler but not a wing. Some of the vette run a big clear plastic one on the rear bumper.

Good job taking them down.

you have got to be kidding me, you can have an 8" spoiler standing almost streight up and down, but you cant have a pretty little wing that site flat doing nothing?!?!
he he he.
interesting.
all well, still had fun even though I got my *** handed to me by a Vette. ----- EDIT: TWICE!

Nice job Casey, how many drivers were in your class? How did Keith do?

We had fun at the practice today. I lost count of how many runs I did and was pretty worn out after 8 hours. I sat on my first run as my best time all day.

We did some experimenting with swapping cars. Although the results were a little inconsistent, it seems my car may be a bit slower. Doh!

It can be 10" tall. Kind of an old school rule. Things are in the works for an updated wing/spoiler rule.

I definately saw myself making some improvements in how I was taking corners. I have to admit, I was able to "cheat" a little though since Casey ran before lunch and he walked around course with me and explained how he took corners, and how he would have liked to take them. So, I used this information to my advantage...and it really did help.

My times were:
55.758
54.533
54.027 (could have been faster though)

I should have had a rerun on the third run. I was pushing myself really hard, trying to get to 53.000 or better. I really thought that I had left that much time out there on the track in three of the sections. Coming into the third section I was taken off guard by a downed cone. Ulllose will be happy to know, I have progresses to the point of looking far enough ahead to notice downed cones now... But here was the problem....this was my fastest lap, so I was caught in the stage of do I stop, do I go....well, I didn't stop, and that whole process of thinking about stopping/going through me off and I wasn't able to get back into my groove for the remainder of the lap. I still turned in my fastest time, but was dissapointed because I know it could have been better.

I talked to the guy at the finish about a possible rerun. He stated that I didn't stop and that no one called in the downed cone. He said he would ask and suggested that I wait in the grid. I was disspointed to find out that they wouldn't let me rerun because it was my fastest time of the day, and that I didn't stop. I went back, talked to Casey, and realized that we possibly had it on the video tape, that was in my car. We did....so I ran up to "show" my proof...they still didn't let me go. They sited a couple of things. (1) I didn't stop. (2) It was my fastest time. (3) SCCA rules don't allow you to use video taped evidence. (4) I was in an RX8...well, they didn't say this, but that is how I felt.

Casey made a good point upon me coming back from this second attempt at a rerun...he said, that they should have let me rerun, if I was willing to forfit my fastest lap time. I know I could have turned in a faster time. It wouldn't have made much a difference, because the fastest time in the class was a 48 or 49.000 from a M3...and there were some subys with 50 and 51.000's. I think it kinda hit home, because the last Cal Club event Casey was winning, until the black Supra got like 3 reruns. It seemed that he was out on course forever. Well, anyways.

I feel good now, I am seeing cones better...and maybe next time...I'll stop.

Quick question Jason's....the starter at this event brought up the idea that I should compete in STX...and that I would be more competitive. What do you think?

antoehr question for you Jasons.
after seeing a Vette eunning 335 tires, how would a little RX-8 rinning 245's compeat with that? is the Vette just a better car for BSP? It's not THAT big of a deal, I still had fun, I still intend to run BSP, I still have a LONG way to go with my driving ablilities, but from what I saw yesterday, they Vette is a better BSP car.

Can't believe everything you hear. RX-8 is not allowed in STX.

My question about a Vette in "B"SP is that most of the other vettes you see will be in "A" class....AS, ASP.....am I right or wrong? I thought classing was to keep things competitive....now how can one car be in different classes "A"..."B".....?

The RX-8 is explicity excluded from STX. That's why it's in STU.

As far as the BSP vs BS, etc. the street prepared classes don't directly map to stock classes. For example, an s2000 is an A-stock car but in SP form it goes in BSP. It all depends on how quick a car can be when it is fully prepared to the rules in that class. Also, you can't expect all cars in a class to be competitive. There will always be 1 or 2 cars that are fastest.

First to get a rerun you must come to a complete stop in the area of the cone that is out of the box or down and point it out to the course worker. Part 2 of that is after you have come to a complete stop and pointed out the cone you must complete your run at a slow pace, 20mph or so. Only then can you get a rerun. Same thing about the slow pace if you get red flagged, always come back at a slow pace, if you come back at full speed after you stop you may not get your rerun.

The RX8 as Jason said is banned from STX, due to its "sportscar nature" it can not run in STX even though it is under the displacement limit and 4 doors. If it were allowed in STX it would crush the class.

As far as BSP and the RX8 to hang with the Vettes your best chance is to get some 18X9-10" wheels and step up to the 285 tires. The fastest BSP car at the last few events has been a Honda S2000, runs in PAX so you may not have seen him. The RX8 would have a tuff time as it about the same setup, gearing, power etc as the S2000 but weighs a few hundred pounds more. Not to say it could not be done just going to take a 100% fully set up car to do it at the natl level.

The Vettes run in a bunch of different classes
Stock C4s 84'-96' AS
Stock C5s & C6s 97'-current SS except C6Z06 which is banned and goes right to ASP
C4s go to BSP
C5&6 go to ASP
All go to SM2 beyond that.

Thanks for all the info Jasons....it is great to have a resource to help us newbs through the process.

I am planning on coming down this weekend, but haven't decided whether I want to do a practice event or championship event. I recalled there being a practice event on 4/1...is this correct?

ahhhhhhh, I thought you said these things never fill. Guess I just saved 30 bucks then.....

On other related auto-x news. Found all the part numbers for MS suspension parts. They do not yet have the coilovers available to us through the Mazdaspeed program....and they indicated that the rear sway bar was not available on line. I've emailed them on that.

Couldn't find the part number for the front brake pads. Ulllose, do you have the parts catalog in the PDF format...if so, it is rather cumbersome to search through.

No I said they don't fill up as fast as Cal club... Cal Club will fill up in 2-3 days. SD takes 2-3 weeks to fill up.

Every bit of info I post comes from the Mazda Comp website. There is the complete parts pdf for the RX8 online, list 2004 model only right now. Once you get your member number you can log into that portion of the website.
