Route 33 - Excellent Driving Road
Just drove up near Santa Barbara to California Highway Route 33 today, and I must say it was by far the best driving experience of my life.

On Google Maps
I started heading north from Ojai at about 6pm, and drove all the way north and east to the 5 freeway. I threw on the score for the movie K-PAX and drove the best road I've ever been on. Over 50 miles of large and small curves, straights, elevation changes, two small tunnels, and lots of gorgeous scenery. I saw very little traffic, none of which was in front or behind me, and I did not see one police officer the whole time. The sun was setting, and it was all just perfect. Me and my RX8, basically going as fast as I wanted (usually up and down 3rd gear). Eventually the act of "driving" just faded into the background, and I just got lost in the experience.
I cannot recommend this road highly enough. I'll be going back very soon.

Highway 33 is nothing but excellent paved road.
I'd like to try highway 58 as well, but it takes me over 2 hours just to get out there.
I tried Decker Canyon road aswell a few weeks ago (highway 23, from PCH), and found it to be too twisty. I did it north, then back south and was car sick by the end of it!

I ran 33 on my way to Port Hueneme last week. it was a pleasant suprise leaving the desolation around Maricopa. Totally georgious scenery and clean fast roads. I prefer the tighter twistiest though. Napa Valley is surrounded by some of the best.
