Rotorsport experiences?

I am planning to do some regular maintenance servicing at Rotosport in Santa Clara, Calif. Sounds like they do a great job from posts on here.

Any recent experiences? And opinion on their pricing?

Paul is a cool guy, he knows a lot. I've been doing business with him for a while now and he's done everything to my car and my GF's.

He carries a lot of things for our cars and whatever he doesn't, he can get fairly quick.

Thanks N rider89. Went over the 7 site and good comments on there. I have about 700 miles to go before 30K so I'm thinking January will be when it goes in.

Paul really knows his stuff and does really clean work. Imho he charges too much for labor... But parts he has good prices.
And he carries a lot of parts in stock!

Just to update. Took my 8 in for the 30K servicing at 33K miles on my odometer. Paul was excellent to do business with and clearly knows his stuff on rotaries and Mazdas.

Changed my dino differential and transmission fluid to synth AMSOIL. New spark plugs. Oil change and a first use of 10W-30 from using 5W-30 and 5W-20 in the car (had him put 5W-20 on the work order in case it ever has to be turned into Mazda). Coolant flush with Redline Water Wetter added. Rotated tires, checked brakes and if I needed alignment. I thought the pricing was very fair in terms of labor hours for each item worked on. I saved money by providing the spark plugs, fluids, and Water Wetter.

After the work, what a difference. The car drives even better with a noticeably smoother transmission and quieter drivetrain and a new snappiness to it.

I highly recommend Rotorsport to those in the Bay Area.

Paul will jack you on the price of parts. Double check the price on all that before letting him service your car. He puts major major major major mark-up on all parts, but will begrudgingly work on your car if you bring in stuff.

I'd avoid going there though, honestly.

I paid 700 bucks to have the hoses in my FD's rat's nest replaced by Paul at Rotorsport. He refused to use the Hose Techniques kit I already bought, and when all was said and done, more than a couple hoses were crossed and/or in the wrong spot. To Rotorsport's credit, though, no one else in the Bay Area will even touch that job. It's a serious nightmare. If it wasn't for Paul, I probably would have had to take my car to LA.

Unless you're having something like that done, there are (IMO) better/less expensive places in the Bay Area to have your Rotary worked on. PR Motorsports is one that comes to mind. Mr Mazda's another.

I'm going to be having my new clutch put in there in the next month or so about $400 for the labor.

In terms of Mr. Mazda being cheaper, I didn't find them cheaper when I did my 30K servicing. I priced both and Rotorsport was cheaper, but I did provide spark plugs myself. Pays to shop around to a point. It is good to have a relationship eventually with one mechanic.
