Paging MikeB

I plan to take my car to Irvine Mazda when the trans and airbag TSB notices get sent. I'd also like to get the ECU reflash at that time but my car has never thrown a CEL. Are the folks in the service department pretty good about doing things if you ask? I understand I can leave the gas cap loose and that will produce a CEL but would really rather not. I'm reasonably sure this wouldn't cause other issues but why risk it. Know what I mean?

Opps. My bad. I thought you used Irvine. Tustin's just up the road a piece I suppose I could swing by there. But the question remains. Are they good at performing work if you simply ask but don't have a CEL that would be a prerequisite to getting the work done.

Some people had their PCM's reflashed from a "poor fuel milage" complaint.

In Southern California???

If so, what dealerships?

My gas mileage SUCKS. I'd be happy with 17-18 mixed but I'm probably getting 13-15.

I have taken my car to both Irvine and Tustin Mazda. Irvine Mazda was terrible, totally disorganized, no car wash no loaner car, never called back when the car was ready.

Tustin Mazda has been great. They alwasys give me a loaner car, the service manager Gary Marstens is wonderful. I highly recommend Tustin Mazda. They have got their act to gether.

RP/Ice- Thanks for the input guys. I'll be taking a run up to Tustin this week at lunch to talk with Gary and see if I can't get lined up for service of the TSB's and an ECU flash.

Dropped my car this morning at HERITAGE mazda in Tustin. Funny thing is it's at the same location that Tustin Mazda used to be but Tom and Gary no longer work there. Seems the dealership has been bought and today is the first day of the big transition. Do I feel a bit unsettled? You bet. The new service manager is Ralph and while friendly enough I can't speak of his technical competence. But when he asked me what it was in for I said, 'the two recalls 1604 and 1704 and the 'L' code ECU flash'. He wrote this down and didn't say a word so I asked, 'does that makes sense?' and he said yes. He said gary went to work at a Kia/Hyundai dealership that the old company owns. He didn't say what happened to Gary. The techs are supposedly all the same. Heritage owns another Mazda dealership in HB. I'll let you know how everything pans out when I pick it up tonight. Oh, they did pay for a two day rental. Watch out for the wildman in the white Cavalier sedan.
