OC dealers going out of business?

I heard that both Irvine and Phillips (Laguna) Mazda have shut down... Anyone else hear that?

Oh, that's interesting. I'll give them two a call tomorrow morning to see if they're still in business.

Phillips still has an active website and is listed as a dealer on mazdausa.com. I can not find Irvine on the web and they are no longer listed on the Mazda site.

I would never imagine that Irvine would go out of business considering that they're the second closest to the Mazda HQ.

The Ford stores are hurting the most.
If old David J. (Phillips) retired it wouldn't surprise me.

And Mazda stores are actually doing well. I can't see why they would be hurtin or feelin any crunch right now.

Yup. Irvine Mazda is gone. Adios. No mas.

I drove by there on Wednesday and saw the empty building. Soon my RX8 will be gone too. Wife says the car has to go if we are planning to have more kids.......

You crack me up Rasp.

Gotta make some sacrifices if we want more kids. But I'll probably get a beater sports car to help scratch that itch.

Wow dude, that is harsh! I actually bought an RX-8 BECAUSE I have kids. No other decent 4 door/seater sports car out there.

well aparantly, i read in the OC Regsiter that Phillips just got rid of pontiac and i think GMC but still has the mazda cars... Also Family Nissan closed their doors in RSM which is a surprise.

Phillips is one of the oldest dealerships in Cali. Although David J has pretty much retired, the store is still run by family members who carry on the good name.

I have always trusted their store. As an Employee, and as a customer.

Irvine Mazda on the other hand. . . . . . . . . I am not too sad to see them go.
BTW - My Mazda store in Temecula is kickin ****!!!

Gotta remember that any dealership can fold. They aren't the manufacture, they're a 'reseller'. It's pretty easy for a dealership to get thin with their assests and find themselves upside down pretty quick.
