Northern California RX 8 Club

Moderator Appreciate if you could make this sticky.

Hi everyone in Northern Cali. Wouldn't it be great to form a Club up here too. Not sure if any exist and from the posts in this Forum a few folks have already gotten together.

What do you say?

sponster 08-17-2003 08:07 PM

I'm in! Just picked up my RX-8 yesterday, and would love the chance to break it in with some other locals...

rxphink 08-18-2003 12:07 AM

Ah you beat me to it. Good.

Yep I'm in, a few of us owners have already met once, and now more should have their cars so we should have more ready to play.

I propose we take a page out of the Southern RX-8 owners book and have a B-BQ or something of that sort.

Unfortunately I'm not from here so I'm not sure where would be a good place to meet so that all the people in the bay area could come easily, so maybe someone else can make a sugestion.

I'v only seen one other RX-8 on the road so far (a yellow near Rengstorf & 101) and I would love to see more colors in person.

So what's everyone say?

madhaus 08-19-2003 04:03 AM

I don't see any difference between this thread and the one I started except that we put some pictures on after we met. Still waiting for MVCalypso to post his.

Except this one got the sticky!!!!

Dunno about a BBQ but we'd enjoy another get-together and a cruise. Sorry rxphink, we're soooo Californian that we're vegetarian.

If I have advanced warning I'll come up for a day. Just give me an address and my honey in the car will guide me...:D

Sputnik 08-20-2003 09:33 PM

Hey guys,

Please keep this thread clear for club business, and create another thread for planning a meet (which is why the other one wasn't stickied, it was just for a meet). Thanks.

---jps

antman_x 08-21-2003 12:03 AM

thx jps. doesn't seem like there's huge interest. perhaps there's just not a large enough group out there of owners to have critcal mass for formation. but even if this thread caused an informal get together which led to the formation of a club still would be kewl.

I don't mind if you unstick this after a week or two if no one shows interest.

wanker 08-21-2003 02:13 AM

jps, could you let us know what we need to form a norcalrx club?
I thought the meets were a beginning, but apparently that isn't
appropriate for this thread.

Thanks

Sputnik 08-21-2003 12:05 PM

I have no experience or knowledge on creating a formal club (maybe seek out the fellow in So.Cal. who has?).

Keep in mind that people are just now getting their cars. It will probably take some time before there is enough people to start anything more than a couple of meets. We'll keep this sticky here so when new people and lurkers come to see if there is any information, this will be easy to see. With that in mind, you wouldn't want to make this a 10 page thread on previous meets that a new member would have to wade through just to find a little information on the local RX8 organization.

While meets are where informal and formal clubs begin, meets come and go.

Northern CA RX-8 Club - this time for real!!!

OK folks!!! this could be it for real, let's get the Northern CA RX-8 club going!!

The owner of Oak Tree & Almaden Mazda, Shaun Del Grande, has graciously offered to host the first meeting of the Northern California RX-8 club.

Mark your calendars, the kick-off meeting will be held at Oak Tree Mazda, this Wednesday, August 27, 7:00 PM.

(Oak Tree Mazda is at 4250 Stevens Creek Blvd., near Kiely, San Jose, CA 95129)

Shaun says: "Please pass the word that we will have our Launch Meeting on Wednesday, August 27th at 7pm at Oak Tree Mazda. We will have snacks and refreshments for everyone in attendance - and should have plenty of ideas to bounce around!"

some ideas for club meeting topics:

- of course, some rallys and tours

- talks by factory people on tuning, driving technique, RX-8 special stuff.

- maybe some autocrossing, "track days", other special driving.

- ??? your idea here ???

EVERYONE !!! mark your calendars and show up this Wednesday at Oak Tree Mazda, 7:00 PM.

Any club is only as good as what we put in to it. all we have to do to get this started is show up - bring your RX-8 and your enthsiasm and let's make it happen!

N CA RX-8 Club!! minutes and news

hey Antman & everyone,

(sorry for the delay in posting this, been busy.)

we had 9 people last wednesday evening. for the kick-off meeting of the N CA RX-8 club we decided:

- the emphasis would be mostly social but with some technical content: RX-8 support & news, tuning, driving tips, etc.

- keep it informal to start - no budget, no officers, etc. if we get a good group going then we can get more organized and collect fees, pay for speakers, etc.

- keep the events calendar lined up

my task from the meeting was to line up the forthcoming events.

my first thought was with the insider support from Shaun Del Grande we could do something very special, very RX-8ish, at Laguna Seca. LS has some upcoming events but none are really "rotary" oriented. best thing would have been something like a Formula Russell or Star Mazda event!

so, the first event will be a Northern CA RX-8 rally down to Irvine for SevenStock, September 27 & 28. several of us were going anyways and it will be fun to do the trip together. (can CHP write tickets en mass??)

second event will be a picnic - when & where TBD. any suggestions?

meanwhile, MazdaBob will continue to hold court on Tuesdays at 19:00, at the Round Table Pizza in Sunnyvale, at Mary and Maude.

when the tuners get a chance with the RX-8 we will start having dinner & talks etc.

maybe we can all meet at Le Mans Karting in Fremont and have some fun driving go-karts?

??? Your event here ??? seriously folks, this can be YOUR club. it's only as good as we make it. so let's organize rallys, etc!

Cliff Sojourner

Sevenstock sounds like fun. Maybe they could
save us a place for N. CA to park.

Heh...maybe better remain anonymous than ask SoCal folks to reserve spots for NoCal. ;)

"Yeah, take a left out of the parking lot, then over to the other side of the tracks..."

Hehehe

But seriously, me and my 8 are already planning a trip to San Diego that week anyway, so I'm sure I'll pop up to Irvine to see what's up with Seven Stock!

There's a weekly get together in Sunnyvale which I haven't had a chance to go to lately. I will try to make it tomorrow. It's in Sunnyvale so it's not to far from Santa Clara but unfortunately I have to hike down from SF. :)

There are usually 4 or 5 people that show up regularly with others coming as they can. And it's Tuesday nights :)

PUR NRG 10-15-2003 11:50 AM

Christine and I attended last night's get-together. People seemed really interested in autocross/track events, various mods--the usual stuff. It was enjoyable but I don't think we could attend weekly.

What would people think about a) making it once a month and b) setting up semi-organized agendas? Different people could volunteer to talk about subjects like:

:) how they did a particular mod (night lights and cargo nets were two examples we discussed)
:) questions/observations (roundtable discussions soliciting help)
:) tech clinics (car maintenance, driving techniques)

Each topic could be as long or as short as the volunteer wanted, but having an agenda published in advance of the meeting would help spur attendance and knowledge sharing. Whaddya think?

rxphink 10-15-2003 04:35 PM

That's the general idea for the clubs ultimate direction, we have the full support of Oak Tree and Almanden Mazda to use their techs every now and then for tech talks and their work bays and lifts to use durring the talks.

The tuesday meeting isn't meant to be attended by everyone every week it's just an informal get together when you have the chance.

I was called off to help my wife last night or else I would have gone.

I need to see about getting a complete list of people interested in the club and setup a date and time to get us all together in the future to talk and setup events and ideas for the club.

cagefreak 11-09-2003 02:16 PM

Can a person without an RX8 join in the meet? I know it kinda defeats the purpose but my girl and I intend to get one eventually. And I do own a rotary. Just not an 8. yet.

brothervoodoo 11-09-2003 07:02 PM

I don't see why not! I've only been there twice myself, I'm sure some of the regs will chime in.

mazdabob 11-09-2003 07:50 PM

All rotorheads welcome.

cagefreak 11-09-2003 09:47 PM

sounds great. I will be out there soon enough. Just wanna come out there with my FC so I have to finish it up. Don't wanna be the only one without a rotary. hehe.

Rx8Past 11-24-2003 01:29 AM

brothervoodoo, I guess we're one of the few people with tit gray rx-8's in SF. Sweet pics man, mine's look just like your's except mine has the wing and appearence pkg only. GREAT SHOTS!

brothervoodoo 11-24-2003 02:19 AM

Thanks, I'm waiting to get a decent deal on a euro lip spoiler. Either way, you can't go wrong with OEM wing, it's done right without being to over the top. You got the 16' rims right?

Rx8Past 11-24-2003 05:34 PM

cool man, sounds good. Yeah I do have the 16's. So do you go to the meets in sunnyvale?

brothervoodoo 11-24-2003 06:13 PM

I went 3 times, you planning on going down there?

Rx8Past 11-25-2003 12:49 AM

I'm thinking about checking it out. I go to school at sjsu so it's not too far for me. I'm not quite sure when or where it takes place though.

brothervoodoo 11-25-2003 01:04 AM

Here's the info, debating whether I will make it. It's located on North Mary Ave in Sunnyvale.

winebrad 12-31-2003 12:39 AM

You know when I was discussing my deal with Bruce Wood he said that he has sold almost 40 this year but I just dont see any! I saw a Titanium last week before I picked mine up but other than that I just don't see any. Which is good in a way because it makes ours that much more unique!

Invisiguard 12-31-2003 12:58 AM

Well theres one right behind the dealership where I work at (a shade darker) guy bought it a couple months ago:)

For sale on best offer, mechanically inclined only!

For sale on OBO: Gray RX8 2004

I have a 2004 RX8 with 168K on original engine. The engine is suspect, it died on my daughter although it just passed smog couple of weeks before.

She alternately drives a Miata hardtop also. I am tight with financing and don't want to spend $1600 on plugs, coil and starter before the dealer can check the engine compression and risk hearing the bad news engine is RIP.
