damn i got a ticket a while back when i had my license plate on the passenger side dash. instead of giving me a ticket for not having my license plate infront of the car, they gave me a ticket for the license plate blocking the front windshield! so i suggest those of you whole put your license plate on your dash not to even bother putting it there....it only attracts more attention...

Most of the time the cop is not going to notice that you don't have a front license plate when you go whizzing by them on the highway. Obviously they will see if you are driving at residential speeds, but putting it here is nutso...

It's still not legally compliant, and they notice it when they come to your window... It's like a big HEY YOU LOOK IT'S NOT ON THE CAR!

I'm tellin ya break the license plate holder, and put it in the trunk, your chances of getting some sympathy are far better than having no story at all...

Also, then you can just get 2 sided tape to hold it on while you get the cop to check it out and sign off the violation.

Might as well take it down. That does nothing for you. Brother is a CHP officer. Rule is it has to be permenently affixed to your car in the designated area. If you have it up top on your dash it is illegal, and if anything would attract even more police attention.

I see vette's without front plates, certian pontiac's, if it doenst look like a plate belongs there I dont see how you can get a ticket. If i ever DO get stopped for it I'll just say when I got my car (last october) it only had a place to mount the rear plate.
Texas came very close to getting this stupid law changed six months ago. It started with petitions (in internet mail groups) and got written into an unrelated piece of legislation. That particular paragraph, however, got cut out in a "final hours" conference session, so we need to wait and try again in the next Congress (two years).

It would take a pretty sharp cop to point out that there is, indeed, a front plate mounting point in the middle of the 8's front grill. There are instances of people getting tickets (to the tune of $200) for not having the front plate. I hope that your luck holds.

My car is in Mississippi 90% of the time. When I drive back to Houston, I stop at the Sabine River rest stop on I-10 (500 yds into Texas) and put on the front plate.
I then stop at the LA rest 1/2 mile out of Texas to take it off again.

I've been driving for 2 years in LA without a front plate on my 8 and haven't had an issue. I've been pulled over 3 or 4 times and only got a ticket once for rapid lane change .

I took off the front plate holder thing, cause it's huge and ugly. My plan is just to say I bought the car used (which is true) and it didn't come with any place to mount the front plate. *shrug* We'll see if it pans out if and when I need to use it.

i've gotten a verbal warning before, and since then i've re-affixed the dealer "new car registration" sticker on the front windshield to create the frontal "illusion" that it might be a new car. (i have the rear plate on tho.) i've been tailed before, but not pulled over yet. <knock on wood> i figure it's a matter of time. but, the other thing i do to help minimize the chances is just be conscientious of where i park- ie i never park on meters or busy city streets and try to park within parking structures whenever possible.

yah, it's a stupid law.

i dont have a front license plate either but the cops didnt do anything bout it much. he just said that it was illegal and he said that when you get pulled over. say that you just got your front bumper fixed after an acident.

**** Calie. I have had 4 cars and not one has a front plate. Next time you see a Vett look at the front and take a pic of it show it in court. That should help.
