no front license plate impossible?
okay today i finally realized it is starting to be impossible to drive without a front license plate in los angeles. i didn't have a license plate on my car for over years with my other cars, and it's been almost a month without license plate on my 8. i was just driving off the freeway and got pulled over for no front license plate -_-. i thought it was just bad luck for meeting polices that have nothing better to do, but this morning i got two more no front license plate tickets. until today, i didn't even know parking enforcers give out such tickets. i think it's finally time to put my license plate on. booo this sucks

Like I told Mez, having it in the dash the police will still give you a ticket. It's happened to me before. Fix it tickets are more of an annoyance than anything else... it's simply a way for the police to pull you over and see if there are other possible violations you can get.
When I get the new car, I will not put the plate on.

They can't pull you over for no front license plate, it's a 2ndary violation. They have to pull you over for something else, and then ticket you for that also... At least in CA.
If you got pulled over specifically for that you should sue

That's one reason why I registered my car in Florida instead of Illinois, no front plate!

I think it depends upon the cop and stuff. I transfered my plate from my second gen to my first Rx-8, to my second Rx-8 (buy-back). The front plate was stolen from my 2nd gen when it was parked in front of my house. I've gotten pulled over 4 times in the 8, no cop ever commented about the front plate, and three of those I wasn't even given a ticket. The first three times, the cops were admiring the car and chose not to give me a ticket (speeding, not signalling a lane change, or not having the correct month sticker on the car). The fourth time, I got the ticket (speeding), but the cop didn't write me up for a no front (I don't think she even walked to the front of the car). All of these were solo cops.
I did get 3 no front plate tickets in the past, once on my first gen (I never put it on, and only had 1 no plate ticket in well over 100K miles ), once for the 2nd gen (a couple of months before it got ripped off, which is why it was on the car in the first place), and once for my Durango. The Durango case was a cop trying to be macho with his probie. He originally pulled me over for an expired registration sticker, but I showed him the tags in the car (I hadn't put them on yet). Since he couldn't nail me for one thing, he did the other, and he was clearly posturing to the probie.

Just put the front plate on. It's not worth the numerous tickets and second looks from the po po. I didn't want to but finally caved in since I too live in L.A. The parking bastards have nothing better to do and will ruthlessly ticket you. So just put the bitch on and look good drivin it!

i would say move here to vegas but most of the transplants here are from california anyways, so stay over there.....
anyways over here in nevada the regulation states that if your car looks like has a spot on the front bumper where a plate goes, there needs to be a plate there, but if it looks like plate doesnt belong, you dont have to have one, but its not heavily enforced anyways, i see like airbrushed names for front plates..

It all depends on where you live in CA... I got a ticket for doing 122 in a 65, and they didn't even look at the front of the car. He did nail me for not changing my address at the DMV though.
Also, the license plate looks so F'n horrible on our car I will continue to pay the 10$ fix it ticket (even though I never got one) long before I would put the plate on.
We need a decent relocation kit for our car, something that goes like lower passenger side.

yeah $10 fix it is fine, until you get these $25 ones from the damn parking enforcers constantly . i also heard that the 2nd fix it and 3rd fix it has different higher penalties .

I'm from texas - and apparently it's required here but I've had mine off for 6 months with no ill-effects. So either cops just dont care or something (im in the DFW area as well)
I see vette's without front plates, certian pontiac's, if it doenst look like a plate belongs there I dont see how you can get a ticket. If i ever DO get stopped for it I'll just say when I got my car (last october) it only had a place to mount the rear plate.

Here's a funny story (sorta).
I was going somewhere in Cerritos. We got there early so my friend and I decided to grab some coffee. I was driving around looking for a place, when I noticed a cop tailing me. I figured I was speeding (like usual) so I checked, but I was going 3mph below the limit cuz I was looking for a place to get coffee. Me friend said I should ask her where to get some coffee and donuts.
Anyways, cop lights me up, I pull over.
She says she pulled me over for my illegally tinted windows and missing front plate.
My friend leans over and asks her where we could get some coffee. At least he didn't ask for donuts!
Anyways she only wrote me a ticket for the license plate, and said she wasn't going to write one for the windows.
It was a $10 fine, and I just got a "friend" to take care of for me because I assumed when I went to another cop to sign off on the correction, he might write the ticket for the windows.
I fully expect to pay a fine for not having the front plate and having very dark tinted windows up front as on "add-on" to a real ticket. But, when I get pulled over just for that ,
I can think of a few places I'd like to afix something .
