Basically I cleaned out my garage and threw the OEM exhaust in a dumpster. (finally! taking up room and collecting dust for too long)

you'll never buy another Rotary again?! After a year of owning my 8, I absolutely would buy another Rotary down the road...

I would have to say that the Rotory community, in general, is a completely new experience to me. I think it is great that there is a lot of pride about the culture around these cars. I would also have to agree that 7 owners are a different bunch than 8 owners. I for one, was not aware of what I was getting myself into with this car. I think a lot of 8 owners just bought the car because they liked certain aspects of it...not even being very aware of the engine and it's uniqueness....this was my experience anyways.
This is why I think we don't understand why people don't wave when you say hi to them on the road. If you have ever known someone who owns a Corvette, they would tell you about their community of car owners...they will always wave to other vette owners...there is respect out there for most.except for some of the newer owners...the ones picking up the new Z06...they seem to be a bit different and more into feeling of being superior....(I guess it is related to horsepower and male machismo).....
As for big turbos and shortcomings....I only ask them to show me their turbos, not interested in looking at their shortcomings

which cars are you interested in right now deedub?
For me, the only cars that I really like right now are the STi...I just love the styling and the sound of the engine. The community is really large with those cars...and I would love to autocross with it.
...the other car I have always liked is the NSX..but for the money, I would probably end up getting a Z06 first. The new styling of the C6 is awsome.
Of course, I can't afford the insurance on any of these, one reason I ended up with the 8.

totally.
my FD friends are completely obsessed w/ hp and it doesn't matter if their cars are in the garage 98% of the time, which is odd to me. i've seen them tune their cars to the point where they're faster than **** and what i would consider "perfect." but, they still aren't satisfied and take everything apart to try sqeeze a few more hp's and that's always when they inevitably break something... it's true that they aren't crazy about the 8 like we are. but, objectively, in our discussions i think that they make two really valid points. first, the 8 isn't "as true" a sports car as the FDs are. and, second the 8 is definitely way over-priced when u take into consideration at how fast it depreciates relative to other vehicles.
and, yes- i see vette owners wave to each other all the time. but, they are usually older folks- ie in their mid to late 40's or older, since it takes that long to afford them.
