do yourself a favor, dont take any car valued over 10k to UCI. i got vandalized just for visiting the school. i'd hate to see what happens to someone who actually lives there.

Hmmm an RX-8 at Irvine is considered an average car. There are already 5 owners there that I know of driving theirs on campus. It's not like it's a big deal... since the high end cars include Skylines, NSXs, Ferraris, Porsche 911 Turbos, 1 Diablo that I've seen personally, and the last one blew my sox off... an S7 Saleen. Why the heck would a kid be driving that to school? All of these had the UCI Student Parking tab...

It is called the Univ. of Civics and Integras/Chinese Immigrants for a reason. Btw, I'm an Alumni, great school... Zot zot!

not worth it. you're going to be paranoid about someone keying your car than focusing on your studies.

I wouldn't dare take it to school...especially UCI. I have a few friends that go to/and are alumni's and hear their horror stories. (e.g. car jacked in a matter of 10 minutes, keyed incidents, etc.) Surprisingly, these guys/gals drive high end vehicles, and still, they're vandalized. Do yourself a favor and get a 93 accord. Get liability only insurance and in a couple of years, you'll have enough saved up for the MazdaSpeed RX8 turbo.

Like I said, an RX-8 in Irvine is just an average car. Why would anyone want to vandalize that beats me... there are a lot of other cars much better than the 8 there.

If you are paranoid, then don't drive it.. but that can be said about the Accord/Civic/Camry... those cars get stolen the most in So. California.

i would say it's a little bit above an "average car".... and those that are "above average" are made up of what....10%? of the drivers that own the ferraris and porshes at UCI. and the 8 is sure an eye catcher even compared to some of those rare exotic cars. im sure the 8 will still attract attention to those that envy or dislike the rx8 for whatever reason. people probably wont dare touch the s7 and ferraris even, but when it comes down to a nice/tuned/new mazda, nissian, toyota, or honda....it's just asking to be vandalized. i believe those parts are easy for those punks to resell compared to those of a rare sports car....

i dont think the 8 will get "stolen" compared to an accord or camry like you said.... but most likely chipped, keyed, stripped, dent...........

Part of the reason I know Irvine has tons of RX-8... Mazda US HQ. I see them all over the place in Irvine.. Everytime I drop by for a visit, I see at least 3-5. Just check the OC sightings thread... how many people see each other on Baranca and Jamboree... :P

Go check out the main lot at UCI, the one across from the Student Center. That lot has the best cars usually... last I went, there was a line of 4 Skylines, 1 Ferrari, and the S7. If it wasn't for the parking tab, I would have thought it was an Import Showoff.

I have an '8. I park it at UCI at least once a week for a meeting I have there. I've never had a problem.

thanks for all the replies. yah i know my 8 wont be a total eye magnet when i go there cuz of all the other high end fantasy cars there. I would think they wouldnt key the 8 because of all the other great cars but i guess i was wrong. hopefully my car will never get keyed or maybe im just being ignorant zot zot!

If you love your RX-8 you will not take it to school with you. If you cant resist the urge, make sure to bring a heavy duty car cover and lock that baby down!

UCI is an alrite school... plenty of nice cars there, and yea there are jacking and stuff, my car got broken into, but that is the facts of life at a universtiy.. there are lots of punks... bring the car to school, why let it rot at home =)

anyways, i guess things have changed since i went there, grad 2001 as i saw maybe a few nsx and skyline as the elite cars... i didnt see any porsche, let alone a ferrari... but i hear a relative of the Allergan Chairman goes to uci now and she drives a red 356M...

Get a motorcycle. I suggest a Honda CBR or Yamaha YZF-Rx orSuzuki GSXR or the new Kawasaki ZXRs. Chics dig it, you get great gas mileage, chics dig it, they're way faster off the line than most cars, chics dig it, and you never have to worry about parking because the motorcycle slots are never full! :D Plus, insurance is only about $600 a year. Plus you'll have an excuse to not do your hair in the morning as long as you're carrying a helmet around with you! :D Did I mention chics dig it?
