midpipe is a test pipe. If you live in cali I wouldn't recommend you doing this mod. If you ever listened to an unmuffled rotary you would know what i'm talking about.

I would just invest in a nice catback instead, and maybe look into the rp supercat (depending on which exhaust option)

I'd suggest you look into the aftermarket performance section and search the forums for exhaust clips.

Get either the RP Supercat or the SR Motorsports unit (w/additional resonator). I had the SR Motorsports unit, and I liked it a lot. Pretty quiet, and still gave me 4-5 hp across the rev range. RP Supercat gives more hp (no additional resonator) but is quite a bit louder. One poster had a problem with it coming apart, but I didn't. A straightpipe/midpipe will kill the environment, won't pass smog, not to mention it may very well trip your check engine light. My JIC Titanium with RP Supercat is quite loud, and would be even louder without the turbo. Definitely not something I would give full throttle to around the cops.

How about the jic exhaust w/the BB test pipe? would that be okay? not too loud?

Cool Pete....

I'm guessing you just got the car....

A test pipe is a midpipe. Either one will cause a Check Engine Light, and when you take it in, you will get hassle over your warranty.

Like Stealth said a testpipe is a midpipe. It is basically a smooth 2.5"/3" pipe with nothing impeding airflow. Good for horsepower, but bad for emissions & sound. Just an FYI that would be really loud ! Up to you. Is a 1-2 hp worth the booming sound when driving around. For me it was not.

I wanted a louder RX8 so I just keep the revs up. When I go by other cars, they hear it because it is a stock RX8 turning 6500 rpm that was just 6 feet from their ear. I want to impress the cars going the other way and I want to do it while not speeding. The RX8 can spin high without a load because because it is a rotary instead of a reciprocatinig. I realize the stock muffler is not loud enough to make an impressive noise at a distance, but it does make the same power (as a noisy stock engine) and offers an extra quiet mods (just shift up), useful for passing through areas without being noticed. Like when there is a person tending to a flowerbed 6 inches from the edge of the road. Or a girl on a horse. A mom pushing a stroller. (I love this car!)
