Front Bumper damage due to tire on road

I'm worried, not about the bumper having being damaged by a blown tire on the road but I'm worried that my insurance (AAA) may not cover it since my front bumper is aftermarket.

This occured on 101S around Moutain View (San Antonio Rd exit) and it was in the left lane. 4 cars in front of me hit the tire, flinging it back faster, all were trucks/SUV. Then, the tire was in mid-flight when it hit my car. It cracked the MS front bumper and I'm hoping that's all it damaged.

As of right now, my AAA insurance guy kept on asking me lame questions like "did I get a police report" and "did i know any other motorist" and the worst one was "were there witnesses". I feel the insurance company will not pay for the value of the MS bumper since I didn't actually have it recorded in their records that I had an aftermarket one.

I need some advice, I'm not sure what to do, I mean, I would like my insurance to believe my story at the same time, I want my replacement MS bumper to be hassle free.

any advice?

alex

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. AAA has been pretty good to me although I don't have any experience with aftermarket parts (the only time they ever asked was with the stolen car when they were trying to determine the value of the car). I wouldn't say anything about it being after market, just take it for the estimates etc... I could give you my shop's number and you could ask them, they are a AAA shop and they have been really nice (small shop). I don't think they would need a whole bunch of info to answer a little question about a bumper.... :D (I could even ask for you if you want).

Go to Mazda or a body shop. There goal is to get the car to how it was before the accident -with an MS bumper. I believe the people doing the repairs will bill the insurance company. If they need proof you had this MAZDA part on the car then take pics or just go to a dealer. That should work, huh ?

CGRX... with AAA if you don't go to one of their shops then they will have an adjuster look at it... I was very lucky to be referred to a shop that just happened to be a AAA shop. I feel very lucky and they did a nice job too, hopefully the second time will be as nice if not nicer!!!! :D Also if you go to the AAA shop they guarantee the work as long as you own the car. If you don't then you only have the body shop's warranty which I don't think they have lifetime warranties on their work normally.

I'm thinking Loaded8's way is the safest way. Thanks Loaded8, I feel a smidge better in that my car will be fixed and with the MS bumper replaced. Could you send me the number of the AAA-certified shop.

Can this shop also check if there are other damage the tire may have done?

Fine, screw you guys !

Just playing =) Good luck with it.
I'm sure the shop will look for everything. i.e. bent mounting surfaces for the bumper

hehe ... well, I just figure AAA is gonna give me more grief if I go "out of network". With my bad luck recently, I feel I should stick to the safer route

a part is a part. AAA will take care of you np..
you may have to tell the body shop where to get the parts but AAA will make it good.
they are the best in CA..
