Question Did I get a good deal?

So I got mine last week. 43K for a silver automatic with the works and red/black leather seats after taxes and charges in LA. Did I get ripped off? Thanks.

Oh yeah. Is it better to start paying now or wait a few months because they let me have that option. But I didn't get 0% APR so I guess they are charging me interest if I wait a few months before I start paying. Thanks.

Thanks. I thought I got a little fleeced. But what should be the price then? I only got the MSRP to go by and I know they don't sell it to you at that price. I haven't picked it up yet, but I gave them a down payment so can I change my mind? What's the going rate in CA for a car like this?

The highest MSRP I have ever seen was around 36K but that was a 6speed with NAV. I paid $1500 under MSRP in late October.

43k? is that including the interest on all the money financed for the car?

payam is correct, a fully loaded GT with nav is probably around 36K msrp.

That's the complete bill with tax, other charges, and financing. I also ordered the additional warranty and some other services which probably add 3K total. So I'm guessing 39K is what I should be paying. They fleeced me for 4K. Not good, but I don't think I'll cancel if that's all.

Don't look at the total cost. What's the purchase price?

43k is bad,.. 39k is bad... you can get fully loaded 6 speed for much lower. Go check Galpin or Claremont, they will give you close to invoice, or at least the best price possible. Both very competitive quotes from their Fleet managers.

You mentioned the extended warranty, which usually cost a buttload, then the other BS they will try to sell you like road side assitance bonuses, etc etc... tell them, you just want the car, fully loaded, cut the crap, finance AFTER you get a firm price, and then deal with it then.

Or maybe your credit history is bad and they are charging you 20% interests or something... that's what happened to my friend's 350z, 18% was the lowest he got. :P Scary.

Red_rx8_red_int is right. We'll help you, if you really want it. First, give us a list of every item (i..e, every package, like Grand Touring, Appearance Package, 6-disc CD changer, etc.). Second, give us the negotiated price of the car with all the packages and options. DO NOT give us the total financed amount with interest rate calculated in.

If you do this, I'll tell you EXACTLY the invoice for the car with all the packages and options you list. You should be able to buy the car in southern California at this time right AT INVOICE.

Interest rate and financing are another story and you may be on your own with that. However, if you wish, you can tell us your EXACT interest rate as well. I'll use my interest rate book and calculator to figure out exactly what the monthly payments should be over 60 months or whatever, just to verify the numbers in case they're trying to trick you.

I also need your down payment amount and what county you live in.

Then can you cancel the contract if you haven't picked the car up yet? Also, they haven't cashed my check. Thanks.

I checked the price. It's 35K before taxes or charges. I compared that to the MSRP for the same model and get around 33-34K. That's not too bad. The taxes and 100K warranty really add to the price. So I'm going to keep it since a few hundred isn't going to make a big difference anyway. Thanks for the help everyone.

If you have not yet taken delivery of the vehicle you can cancel or roll back the contract. However, as soon as you drive the car off the lot onto a public road it's YOURS. Lots of dealerships will ask you to drive the car after you buy it if they still have equipment to install on it. That's because this prevents you from being able to back out of the deal.

dang gr8_8, sorry to hear you almost go hosed. there is no way an auto 8 would be that expensive. Even with all the options and the bells and whistles, it should not top out over 30+grand. I mean the invoice for an auto 8 stock is only like 24k. add like GT, Nav, app pack, all the little things, ext warranty and a cup of coffee, can't be more than 6-7k. i'd slap the salesman if he tried to pull that on me. Like Extreme mentioned, maybe you have the credit of a poor college grad, in which case this probably isn't a car you should be purchasing in the first place. Go get your money back if you can, and try one of the bigger dealers, they deal more cars and aren't pressured (as much) to rip you off. Check the invoice price online, determine the options and color you want, test drive it, find out where your credit stands and haggle with the man. most people can buy an 8 now adays at 1k under msrp or near invoice.

If you go to a new dealer, just remember, everytime they run a credit check on you, you will lose 10 points from the Fico score. So deal with the price, then let them run the check.

You don't seem to be listening to any of us. If you want help, you MUST give every single piece of information I requested.

If the MSRP of your car is 33-34K, then you got a car that's filled almost to the brim. This means that you should be able to get a discount off the price of the car (before tax, additional warranty, etc.) that is around $3000 or MORE.

Why in the hell are you paying 35K for a car that is around 33-34K MSRP? That does not make any sense.

Ok, I tried. I offered to help but no go. Some people are their own worst enemy.

:P Come on man, don't be so hard on him, he's already paying a buttload on the 8, and he's joining the family of 8s for that matter. Maybe he's filthy rich and could careless what he spends. My neighbor owns a SL55 AMG and he paid sticker, I guess when you are buying something that expensive you don't hassle with the chump change 2-4k under MSRP.

I see your point, Outlaws extreme.

Gr8_8, you never told us if you're rich. If you are, then welcome to the RX8 club. I will be your best friend and I may need to borrow some money soon.

Uhhh...yea, I'll sell you my new 8 for 40K...has 20 miles on it. What a deal! you'll save 3K, then I can pocket about 10K.

Rich or not, you should never be ripped off by that much. 43K for a loaded automatic is a CRIME. I dont care what add ons there are. That is almost 20K more than the base base automatic model.

To each his or her own. If you have 45K to spend, I can think of several other cars that would be nicer than the RX8.

Happy Rotoring,

Kurt G.

Run, do not walk, away from this deal. STop payment on the check or whatever, do not consummate the purchase. Do not deal with this dealer who clearly took you for a shill. Next, go visit mom and dad and ask them for basic lessons in credit and money management. You have much to learn and are in over your head negotiating a car and finance terms by yourself. It's a snakepit out there and you need to arm yourself. You ain't a-gonna learn it here.
