Came from a Supercharged Mustang

I have to say, I had never done research on the rx8 or the rotary engine. My last car was a 2003 Mustang Cobra. I was pushing 492hp and 525lbs of trq. I never thought I would be driving an Rx8.

I have always liked cars. Be it an import or an American V8. I loved the raw Horse power and the low end torque of the roots style blower on my cobra but I got out of the car scene for a while to try other things. I never lost the car enthusiast in me. I went to the dealer to test drive a WRX STI but they were asking almost $40,000 for that car and I just shrugged my shoulders. The sales manager was driving a 2004 RX8 and told me to test drive it. I laughed at him. I told him after coming from a Cobra I would not drive a 1.3 liter import. I drove it anyway and was so impressed with the handeling and the power that little rotary put out, I bought it. (did I mention it had only 15,000 miles? ) I picked it up for 21,000. Grand touring package. I hear people talking down on these little RX8's but I have been very impressed with how it drives. When I hear people talking crap about the rotary, I just take it with a grain of salt because I know they have never driven one. It is a very different beast and I am having so much fun learning and driving my little 8. I can't wait to see what some of you have done to your cars so I can get an idea on future mods.

I converted and am proud to say Im an Rx8 owner. I just hope the Rx8 crowd is just as cool and nice as the Mustang crowd Im used. to. I represent with pride with out the crap talk.

A friend of mine says his mustang will still smoke me, but I just say, "I didn't buy my car to race in a straight line" I am really liking this rotary technology.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to rx8club. The rx8 is truly an amazing car, sure it doesn't have great straight line performance but take it to the cyn or the track and it will rise above, besides this car is so much fun to drive. You should come out to the monthly rx8 meets.

X-ped,

I plan on going to the meets. I will be going to the one in Union City this Friday at the Krispy Kreem. I will be the one with the wife and Kidd.

Gambit,

I hear yah on asking questions. I had been lurking a few days before posting. I saw people get reamed for questions that have been asked or posting a video that has been posted before. I will just reply to others and chat a bit. Before you know it I will be a vet.

rglbeg
I hope so because I just want to have fun and have a good time with out somone calling me out and talking smack. Im to old to deal with punks.

xped

So have you found the good roads by your house yet? Remember, happiness starts at 5000 rpm and goes until you hear the "beeeeeeeeep" ( you have heard the 8500 rpm beep, right? ) And don't forget, . . . . .
A redline a day keeps the rotary mechanic away. (dont remember where i heard that, if it is your quote, let me know so I can give credit ) BTW - what was the difference ( if any ) on insurance?

when you get bored with the car, you can turbocharge it. Gaining anywhere from 100 hp (Greddy's kit) to 200 hp (Mazsport's estimated whp).

I havn't redlined it yet. I have only got it up to about 7000rpm's so far. I have only driven it for two days and its been in the stereo shop for the last 2 days. I only paid 98bucks a month on the Cobra with a $500 detectable, but Im 33 years old with no tickets or accidents. (So far) I haven't called it into my insurance yet just because Im driving the truck now until my radio install is complete.

I'm looking forward to hearing the beep. what is the average rpm you guys change gears on the 8 in normal driving conditions?

My wife is gonna kill me when I tell her that the 1.3 liter gas saver I told her about is really a gas guzzler. LOL

welcome! Congrats on your purchase, yes it is bad on gas but so was your cobra! hahaha start tweeking the suspension first along with a good set of tires, possibly some lightweight wheels as well. Suspension tuning on the 8 will really impress you if dialed in correctly.

Ok strange questions for you guys. I did a search and couldn't find the answer. I will run the heater and the next day I run the air it spits out heat for a long period of time. I push the climate controls over and over and it will take somtimes 5 minutes before it finally turns to cold air. The when i try to turn on the heater it takes for ever for the heater to turn on. I don't know if that makes any sense but is this normal?

Thanks Dave, I have been watching some rx8 videos on youtube and man, I'm getting excited about this car. 1300cc 1.3liter car performing as good as the 350z in the twisites and more fun to drive and cost less!!! Thats the quote of the day for me.

I just had that fixed on my car. They had to replace some AC controller unit. It was covered under warrenty.

It maybe be a different problem with your car.

The car is rev limited at 9800rpm....i usally shift at 9300 when driving hard.

your tach must be off. Redline is 9000rpm, fuel cutoff is 9300rpm. I hit at least 9k once every day. I am not even sure how correct that is since RB claims rev limiter is 9k and they raise it to 9300.

Living in the bay area, you bought the right car. Go spend some time in Napa Valley and on PCH and you will agree and have a new perspective on fast. Go try Mt Tam and Mt Diablo too. Those are both fun up and down roads. Take your buddy with the mustang. Tell him to follow you.

I thought Fuel cutoff is at 9500rpm? When going at it, i usually shift around 9300rpm.

Welcome to the club. You're so lucky to be in the Bay Area. There are lots of great backroads to really toss the car around.

LOL sounds like a great Idea.

I knew I wasn't crazy. I felt silly not being able to turn on the heater. LOL

I'm supposed to pick up my car from the stereo place today. I went by the place yesterday and they hadn't done anything to my car since Wednesday. I was so pissed. Now there telling me that the custom dash piece they have to make may not get painted until Monday. When I pulled up the guy that was supposed to be working on my car was working on someone else's car. Oh well I will still show up at the meet tonight.

The revcounter is out by about 500rpm at redline .
Slipnslide - just stay on the throttle till fuel cut a few times -then back off a few hundred rpm from there.
