Down there? I'm not to sure. All you gotta do is get it taken off, cleared by the po, then re tint. 35 is a good tint but if you go back to 20, my advice is to have the windows half way down in town. That's what I do and so far 6 months without getting caught

The post was meant for humor yes, but it still to truth.
The reason for the strict law in California is to be able
To see in your car. And yes the smoking part is an actual.
And no I'm not talking cigarettes. I've known a lot of people
That got pulled over just cause the police thought they
Were smoking dope. This you can believe or not.

I believe it but the way your first post was written seemed like you were bashing me because I wanted to hear people's opinions on what happened.

I have %15.49 on front windows, and %4.89 on portholes. I was pulled over for unnecessary acceleration by CHP, got a ticketed for the tint and no front plate.

Stripped the tint and duck taped the plate on. Ended up paying $200 once I got it signed off by a local Berkeley officer.

The cop that signed it off said though, that city police officers will never give tickets for stuff like tint because they WANT to have a legal reason to pull you over (Check for warrants, drugs, etc, etc)...

Bottom line, if you keep getting pulled over for it, just strip the tint, or if you are willing to go through the trouble there are many loopholes you can use.

My friend and I are rebuilding a 280zx, and he wanted some tint, after a few hours of reading law books, we found that he can tint all of his windows but his front windshield, IF he has hood mounted side view mirrors so he can see them unobstructed by the tint.

fix-it ticket in Kalifornia is $10, the tint shop I use will remove the tint for free.
Get ticket signed off, and retint the windows for $75 total cost $85 and three
hours of my life.

I have been stopped in Vegas a few times, never received a ticket (on my drivers record), but only by one squad car. My tint is very dark but never been a comment about the tint or the fact that I have never had a front plate.

Got stopped one time in In the Peoples Republic of Cali........was told to drive with my drivers window down until I left the state. No ticket..........

Halfway down usually works, but I have got pulled over for tint on the highway going 75 through Utah with my drivers window up 3 maybe 4 inches. All he did was check my tint though(14.9%) and send me on my way with a warning.

I understand why tint laws are in place, its a safety thing. I have 15% tint on my driver and passenger windows and I still have to roll them down to be sure nobody is coming when I am turning sometimes.

Not only that but how would you like to be the cop coming up on a all limo tinted car, I would pretty damn nervous and a bit scared just like they are. For all they know you are in there getting ready to shoot them through that tinted glass. I know the chances of that happening are slim, but it does happen. At the very least when you get pulled over make sure you roll both windows all the way down and you should get a warning or tghey may not even talk about the tint.

tl;dr the whole thread, but some insight. CA law will outlaw any other tint laws, if you are even visiting california, you have to abide by their tint rules (at least the last time I read).

That being said, I had my tint done in TN at 15% all around. And have been traveling tons through the states, from TN to GA to FL to CA. No tickets and been stopped at red lights plenty of times next to cops and they don't seem to care. I even got stopped for "losing control" of my vehicle in the rain and my window was up when he walked up and i lowered them and he still didn't mention it.

It just depends on the individual officer mostly, it really is a small infraction.

Got that from a 10 second Google search dude...

If the cars got Nevada plates then you can have 35%.
Where did you get this from? are California tint laws still same for 2024?
