Dude, seriously, WTF! The cop pulled me over for the tint. Can I just pay the bail amount, and keep the tint? instead of being a good kid, remove the tint, and pay only $10.

i had tint on my explorer for 3 years, in nj, which is illegal too, and i had an out of date inspection by over a year because of the tint. i never got pulled over for it, and i did get pulled over once, but the cop didnt say anything about it...that really sucks. i would just pay it. i dont have a front plate on my 8, my rule was when i got a second ticket for it i would put it back on, i got 1 ticket after like a week without it on. i told the cop it fell off and i needed to take it back to get put back on, he didnt buy it and gave me a ticket. the next time i got pulled over i told him it looked stupid with it, he thought it was funny and let me go with a warning and told me to put it on. i will eventually put it on again if i get another ticket since it was like 70 dollars. for now i keep it in the car, and if i get pulled over just throw it in the front window and pray

mine is on the floorboard... 'oh i'm sorry officer, it fell out of the windshield, and i didn't want to go searching for it while i was driving'
What really eats me...those same cops...they don't pull over 'vettes for not having their front license plate...excuse me...my car is just as nice, or nicer, if you ask me, so pull them over, and not me.

oh man, that's a bummer!
What city did you get the ticket in?
I've got 15% in the front of mine and I'm hoping the cops continue to leave me alone. *knocks on wood*
ALSO, I do not believe you can just pay the fine anymore. (CA did away with "fix-it" tickets)
I'm pretty sure you'll have to have it removed and have the citation signed off by your local Sheriff's Dept.
Most tint places will give you a discount on reapplying the tint after you get it signed off on. I"d call them up and see what they can do for you. (oh, and don't let them charge you for taking it off...)

I've always wondered about the deal with Corvettes myself...I mean they're blatantly running around with no front plates. But I suppose they really have no place for the front plate and commonly look that way, whereas a cop could see a different RX-8 with the plate on and deduce that you're lying about there being no place to mount one.

BTW, that cop was checking out my front plate as well. Because I still don't have my plate yet, so I only have my empty brasket in the front without the dealership logo. If I don't have my brasket there, he would have given me another ticket there!
Anyway, back to original question, can I just pay the bail amount, and not fix the tint?

I just got illegal tint on mine. I had to pay in cash of course to get it done. Sorry to hear you got ticketed already. I did 35 on the fronts with metal tint and 15 on the backs with black dye tint to blend in with the black borders. He said that would be my best chance as that is what people usually do if they want to go darker in VA than legal.

reread my post...
You'll know for sure when you get the ticket in the mail but somewhere on there it will say that it is a "correctable offense"
translation: you need to get it fixed AND pay the fine.
This creates extra revenue for the state as you have to pay the fine AND pay an 'inspection fee' to whoever signs off on your check. (usually Sheriff's dept.) I think it's like an $15 or so.

Here's the thing to note... coming from firsthand knowledge.
* Tint has to be signed off if done by the CHP. They are the ones that will require you to sign off at a CHP location, and it's pretty blah.. will check for sure. If it's just a joe schmoe officer, go to a local agency, (such as the city of Cypress, where they have volunteer officers... or even better go to Newport PD, they are too hoity toity to bother with going outside to sign off on a ticket), and have them sign it off. Yes I've been to a few agencies in my time. CHP is the most hassle.
* No plate on Vettes. I asked this to my police friend and they said that the vette owners usually don't get pulled over for the no front plate is because they don't want to deal with the court battles with having no plate. Usually the average driver of a vette are rich, white, male in their late 30s to 50s. Have money to fight silly cases. Why hassle with them right? Age/Sex/Racial profiling... it's true, it happens.
* Tint is one of those silly tickets to pull someone over. Usually they give them out if you were speeding, or other sort of violation.
This all rings true for California. Not sure about other states.

jajajaja i love how you guys complain about 10 dollar ticket. my brother got 5 tickets on his legend each is 90 dollars and he still got to take the tints off. he got to go fight them on Jan 7 he got 7 tickets all together 1 for each glass in the car=5, one cause he gave the cop his permit by mistake, and one for insurance. NY cops are aholes.,
P.S. i never got a problem with my tints, i got 35 or 40 % which is legal in NY
