Hey David, I never really liked that style of wheel. It may look better in person. I still love the side skirts.

Tournapart, Im happy you finally got your beat hooked up. I know the Box looks awesome.

I still havn't gotten my car back yet. They orderd the wrong mirror. I wasn't happy. Been almost 2 weeks without my car. How do you order the wrong freaking mirror? Its either the driver side or the passanger side. They had a 50-50 chance of getting ir right and they missed. LOL what morons. Oh well I'm hoping to get it back today.

Hey SunShine, well I'm going to call you David. I can't call a guy Sunshine, I hope you roll through. The guys are a good group.

Hey David, I like the wheels. However, I don't like your 45 series tires, but I'm just trying to be a critic. At least you're the only regular with aftermarket wheels until I finally get my TC005s mounted up. I think I'm going to go with 235/40 RT615s.

I was thinking of changing it also, it's a little too big, but damn it fills up the wheel wells perfectly. So you finally made a decision on your tires... That took how long? LOL!!! The tires have a buy & try for 30 days. So what do you think? 245/40 or 235/40? Damn it! too many choices again! The 45 is only 6mm larger around then the 40's

Niel, Lyian, thanks for liking my rims, you guys are my new friends! You guys coming this friday?

I'll be there this Friday. Go with the 245/40s if you're sticking with Bridgestone products unless you don't mind speedometer error. If so, it gets trickier as you can drop a lot of money and get Advan Neova AD07s. I'm getting the 235/40 Azenis RT615s since that tire is unusually tall in the 235/40 size; the 235 is actually only 0.1 inches shorter in rolling diameter than the 245/40. Other tires are generally around 0.3 inches shorter.

We'll see, the speedo isn't off at all so far. I drove by one of those radar things that reads your speeds and it was dead on. My tires have a buy and try for 30 days, if I do get a different set, it will be RE-01 @ 245/40. They are the same as the AD07 but just a little quieter.

Hey! You don't get a say, you don't come to the meets any more! LOL JK! But with these tires, the ride is quiet, I don't have to worry about pot holes and it still handles the same.

Dude you should come out to the meets again...

Too much tire? 245s are fine for the stock 8" rim.

I was referring to the side view, as in too much wall. But yes, 245s is great for stock.

I'm not sure the radar things are all that well calibrated. The RE-01Rs are not the same as the Neovas; though they're fairly similar in performance, the RE-01Rs trade that last little bit for extra civility. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the RE-01Rs are less resistant to heat than the AD07s. The price is better though, which is nice. Yokohamas are extremely expensive and that's sort of a deal breaker for the AD07s. Trying to juggle width, sidewall support, lateral grip versus longitudinal grip (thinner tires brake better, wider tires turn faster), price, threadwear, and compound heat resistivity is giving me a headache.

Welcome to the club. If you read through the threads, our meet is at Union Landing @ 7pm.

Where are you located and what color/model did you get? Do you plan on doing anything to it?

You know that friction circle deal that's supposed to show the available grip of a tire? Well, it's not as simple as that. The shape is more oval and the orientation of the major axis as well as the eccentricity changes depending on the tire width and tread style. A wider tire has more lateral grip, leading to higher grip while cornering while a thinner tire has more longitudinal grip, which is more grip for acceleration and braking. Drivers claim to be able to brake later with wider tires, but this has more to do with the fact that you can take corners faster than with any braking advantage. The area of the contact patch stays the same no matter the width of the tire as the contact patch is dependant on the weight on the tire and the stiffness of the sidewalls. This is all just a rule of thumb of course; tires are much more complicated than simple general rules.

And then you throw sidewall stiffness into the mix. Communication is a pretty big thing and wider tires tend to communicate less so are you willing to trade some communication that helps tell you where the limit is for a higher limit? Tires can also differ in weight by quite a few pounds; what happens when you throw on 4 pound heavier tires after you saved 3 pounds of wheel weight? I can go on and on, but I think people are already getting a headache.

I might I'll only be there tomorrow from 7 to 7:15. I have a company thing at night. Sorry guys.

One more fun tire tidbit. Assuming I slap on my tires at 20,000 miles and I get the 235/40 Azenis. I run out of powertrain warranty (60,000 miles) 600 miles earlier than what I would get on a normal 225/45.
