Hi Guys,
I'm moving to the bay area (jack london sq. in oakland) and was wondering what shops you guys recommend for inspection/smog/other state requirements. My car has 35% tint on the sides and rear and doesn't have the cali emissions PCM flash. (I'm also running w/o the front plate). I want to get my car registered in Cali without headaches and I do not want to remove the tint on the front side windows (which are technically illegal). Any info would be appreciated...thanks!

 

Ok, if memory serves me right you just have to pass smog, I don't think they do a visual inspection of your car for registration, you just have to show them the smog paperwork.

Just a warning, Cops have been pretty rabid recently about tint tickets.. I've gotten one, a couple of my friends have gotten one.

 

dont worry about anything but the smog, and our cars are fairly new I would suspect even with a fed code cat you should be able to pass no prob. I wouldnt worry about the tint, I have 5% on rear and rear windshield and 30% on the front windows, never got any bs for it. Smog shop is only going to care whats under the hood, if it looks stock and passes smog you have no issues there. Just take it to a smog only station, or if you want I have a friend that runs a smog shop in oakland if you would like to take it there for extra assurance. Hes been a friend for a long time, so even if you have some **** there as long as its not major he wont care. You may want to take your car to the dealer and get it flashed for CA before taking to get it smogged, hope this helps

I'm a fairly new RX-8 owner (plus the fact that I'm a girl), so any advice regarding upgrades or maintenance would be deeply appreciated.

anyways, upgrades depend on your personality and what you want to accomplish, if anything, with your car.

Maintenance, how many miles on the car? is it new? have you broken it in yet, if new? spill the info and we can tell you what you need to know about maintenance

we meet weekly, most of the time, at the krispy kreme in union city at union landing, we BS, usually grab something to eat and sometimes a movie. I, as most of our real group will not be there tonight, but I will probably be there next week, if rishie's suppliers would get me my damn struts...

currently, i have 30,000 miles on the car and i got it when it had 19,000 mi. my baby's a virgin-- I haven't done any upgrades or what not. the dealer advised me to take it in for a routine check up when it hits 30,000 mi.
