Bay area buyers, step up

Who in the bay area is ordering an RX-8, what configuration and from which dealer? I have a yellow automatic w/GT package on order from Marina Mazda. Estimate arrival june/july timeframe.

I ordered a titanium gray 6-spd with the grand touring package, black leather, and nav option from, of all places (shudder), Putnam Mazda in Burlingame. They said I got my order in time to make 1st shipment...but I'll believe it when I see it--an 8 fresh off the truck with protective plastic and my name on it. (^_^)

Did you have to pay over MSRP? I can't believe Stevens Creek and Sunnyvale actually found people who were willing to pay $5k over sticker.

I don't know, and that's one of the things I'm worried about. Everything's tentative and nothing, other than my deposit, is on paper, despite all my insisting of "well, I saw on..." and "on the internet..." and "I've read that people have..."

This lack of documentation is really starting to bug me. If I have to, I'll gladly bail and get my money back, or perhaps sell my deposit/preorder-slot to anyone who wants it, that is, if I am indeed #7 of 7 on their "first shipment" list. I'm in no hurry to get the 8--there's still lots of fun left in my FD! (^_^)

Excellent; you can be my guinea pig. :D

I placed my order with Ray Causin who seemed like a nice guy. Without my asking he typed out and signed a letter stating he would only charge me what Mazda lists as MSRP. Now there's a potential for weasel words in there (remember "No new taxes"?) but he seemed pretty up front.

Deks, be sure to let us know how your experience goes when you pick up the car and what the final out-the-door price was. I'm on the second shipment.

Hi all,

I just pre-order one from Putnam Mazda in Burlingame last weekend. The saleman told me that my car will be on 2nd shippment and how he told me that i don't need to put down a deposit. He just get all my contact info. and the paper that i print out from the internet. Do anybody know why they don't take deposit for the pre-order?

Same happend to me. When I went to pre order the dealer (in San Diego) didn't ask for a deposit. He just asked for the printout. I am in the 3rd allocation. It is ok with me because I didn't plan on it coming until Fall since they said that's when the nav would be available. I'm not in a hurry to get the car this spring. As long as I get it by summer. :D

That may be dealer misinformation. I'm in the second shipment with nav as an option.

So what happens to us who are in the "first allotment" but have ordered the Nav option. Do we just get an empty flip-up compartment and controls that don't operate anything? Just wondering.

I remember seeing a 350Z at the S.F. Auto Show (weak-*** show, BTW) a few months back that had an empty, but cavernous, flip-up compartment sans the LCD screen.

Talking DOPE

Scratch the hesitation. . . email received from dealership about my preorder:

"Hello Justin,

My name is Joe Huang from Magnussen's Fremont Mazda Fleet Internet / Center. I have one silver color RX-8 manual trans with grand touring package and navg. system on order, should arrived here in June. I sell the RX-8 here at MSRP excluding tax & lic. If interested let me know and I'll proceed from there.

Thank you,

Joe Huang
Fremont Mazda Internet Manager"

I'm so happy. . . :D

Hi, I'm new here but for those of you that have ordered, did all of you get MSRP? From one of the dealers I called today he said he was guarenting a 5k markup, hope none of you guys paid that.
Also what colors are all of you guys thinking about?

From reading these car magazines I wonder how the 4door appearance really is, lots of people say that the car looks so much better in person than in pictures. Whats your input on this?

I think that most everyone got MSRP that preordered. I was talking with my dealer and he is saying that they are expecting 5K markup for the non-preorder units.

The 4-door aspect doesn't really show in most pictures or in person, but it is pretty cool how compact the car is in person. But, at the same time, how much room there is.

If your dealer said $5K markup, get it in writing then Call Mazda! They are trying to avoid this! I don't think anyone here paid of MSRP

Yeah i also heard 5k markup from a local dealer and I started laughing because for that price I could get a G35, 350Z, BMW, Audi S4, or WRX STI.

What do you think the chances are of the RX-8 price going under MSRP especially with the economy, war, and that in the near future a lot of airport people are going to get laid off.

Hi all.

I put in my preorder in the first allotment at the Las Vegas Mazda dealership, before I moved out here.

I'm looking forward to a fully loaded (including Nav system) manual transmission Nordic Green RX8.

After monitoring the RX-8 Forum for several months, I ordered my RX-8 today! It seemed like most people were paying MSRP, so that was my goal. I submitted a purchase request with edmunds.com, and I received responses from 5 dealers. Menlo and Almaden gave no price. Marina offered MSRP with October delivery. Magnussen offered $500 under MSRP with August delivery. The 5th dealer was Oak Tree, which is closest to my home, where I previously bought 4 Mazdas, and my 1st preference. I did not have much hope, tho, because several people reported that they were asking $5000 over MSRP. I was, therefore, surprised when Kathi Greene, the Internet/Fleet Director, said I could get my car for MSRP! She said the 1st allocation was $4995 over, the 2nd allocation was $2995 over, and the 3rd allocation was MSRP. She did not have any info on the 4th allocation. She said the 1st allocation would be delivered in early June, the 2nd in July, and the 3rd in late August. She has 2 more cars available in the 3rd allocation. I gave a $2000 refundable deposit, and was guaranteed MSRP. I can't wait!

She gave me a call as well with the exact same information. I ended going with Royal Mazda in San Francisco (Ricky Lam) because it's closer to where I live. Anybody ordering now shouldn't have a problem getting MSRP.. I was offered this by 4-5 dealers. I put a $2000 deposit on a 6speed / Gray / Tan Leather / GT Package w/ Rotary and Appearance Packages. I ordered on 5/4 but I think I took over somebody elses pre-order because it was dated 2/19 instead, so "I think" I will get mine sometime in July/Aug.. I'll bug Ricky in a little while and press him for more info, but I can tell most dealers don't really have a clue when the cars will really show up.

I went with Marina Motors in Capitola (Ray Causin) at MSRP on April 5. He did seem like a straightforward pleasant fellow. He said I could expect delivery in mid to late July (I can't recall which allocation I'm in, and I haven't been antsy enough yet to pester him for more information.)

Yup. They are the ones I have ordered through as well.
Did you recently get a call from them about a two-month production slip so that
the first allocation comes in August?

I put a $500.00 deposit down on a S.S. MT/GT at Bell Rd. Mazda here in Phoenix. Didn't even talk about M.S.R.P, I just figure I'll get up and walk away if it's over M.S.R.P and get a 350Z Roadster, I'm sure they won't let me walk away?!

Ray called me about the August slip as well. I'm slightly confused because I didn't make the first allocation cutoff date--yet he still talks as if my car will arrive in August. I'm not overly concerned but thought it was an interesting discrepancy.
