under whose name is the car registered?

It looks like you're the dumbass since you told the police that you gave her the keys and not that she took them.

shelldude is a very very smart guy and would not be stupid enough to give some tramp his keys or try to report his car stolen after he said he gave said tramp the keys.

whos the dumbass? let me think......

I'm with Shelldude on this one.
Something here isn't right...

Plus, it does not MATTER if you gave her the keys. Failure to return the item and an item of such worth is considered grand theft in most states.
If the police aren't filing it's because there's much more to this story.

Uh...did you just advocate for him to LIE to the cops?

Trust me on this: It WILL come out that he handed her the keys. After which, he's on the hook for false reporting among many other things an overzealous DA can add.

It's always a good policy to be straight about everything when dealing with the law.

A) He handed her the keys.
B) She took the car and still has it beyond what the owner* has permitted her.

*TOTALLY dependent on the answer to the question below:

under whose name is the car registered?

Giving someone the keys doesn't grant immunity to auto theft. How would car rental companies ever report their cars as stolen when they aren't returned?

The only point that matters is the 'now'. If the current possessor of the car does not currently have permission to posses it, then legally, it's stolen.

Under Arizona Law, Grand Theft Auto is committed when a person, with intent, takes control of the vehicle of another person in order to deprive that person of his possession. This may include a case wherein an owner consented that his vehicle be borrowed be another person but the latter refused or failed to return it.
The cops know this, which is why many of us think there is more to the story.

Detective gave me there ruling for not filing the report operations 4.17 7c. They will only file the report if she dismantles it, sells it or commits a crime w it.

I dont care if u guys want to be dick heads and go against me but I have told u the whole story there's nothing hidden to what I have said and yes ok I am stupid for giving her my keys who would think that helping out a friend would end up losing my car. So that dude may be smart but being a ******** about what I named my car is not needed here now that statute that someone posted for Arizona where can that be found.

If they know this about GTA then why are they not wanting to file a report cuz I gave her the keys? The detective I talk to today wouldn't do it to risk his job so what else do I not know here?

I do admit your profile/albums certainly suggests you're legit. Whatever the case I hope you get it worked out.

Here's the scoop.

He made a mistake, regardless if there is more to the story.

He left the complaint open ended. I gave her my car to help her in her new job.

There is no time frame for the return. Thus, a stolen vehicle can not be made.

She has not refused to return the car since she hasn't been asked.

Hire a PI.

It would be nice if the police could tell you where they spot the car, so you can ask for it back, but, that is not their job.

Take a day off work and canvas the area yourself. Drive around all the industrial parks or strip clubs or where ever she works.

Hopefully you have an idea what type of work she does and what type of business.

If you know the business type:
Use the internet to look up companies with that type of business. Then go visit that location.

This is the same as looking for a job.

Also, if you know here name and other information, you can get a credit background check on her for 25 bucks on the internet.

Since the car was spotted by a friend, you should know the location. You should know the average commute distance for people in your area. Start at last seen position and radiate out in a circle for that distance.
We all learn by making mistakes in life.

Good Luck.

suppose there is a hard lesson to learn here, if you lend anyone anything you have to post stipulations. such as i'm loaning you the car for 2 weeks to find a job, after that you're on your own or have to ask to loan it again for another set timeframe.

not specifying the above leaves you at fault for a lack of timeframe and no way to realistically file the car as "stolen".

it sounds like it's up to you to find this person and your car. as soon as you tell them "i want my car back" and they do not comply then go speak with the detective again and see what he has to say about it then. at that point i would have to say it would be considered grand theft if the following is true..

even if it were a gift if the title is in your name then it is your car, if the title is in her name you may as well call it a loss and accept that you gave away a $10k present that you aren't getting back.

my 8 is in my gf's name, and i understand it is no longer my car. i have my car and she has hers, regardless if **** hits the fan i know there is nothing i can do and knew that going in.

My wife doesn't even get to drive it, I just can't get comfortable with anyone else driving it.

all anyone is trying to do is point you in the direction of the problem. we know something isn't sitting right here if the police aren't willing to cooperate with a stolen vehicle, either you let her borrow it unconditionally or the car was a gift.

if the car is in her name unfortunately that was your mistake and you cannot do a damn thing about it. if you let her borrow it and it is in your name and you gave no conditions see the above. if you let her borrow it and gave conditions and the police aren't willing to help then you may want to try talking to someone higher up, if they still aren't willing to help then we are missing something here.

you can't hand someone a title to a car and go back a week later and demand it is still your car. you still haven't mentioned anything about any conditions or if the car is actually in your name. if the car is in her name then you're just asking everyone to waste their time looking for "her" car and trying to help you steal it back.

the same can be said about anything, even if you buy a house and put it in someone else's name then you are paying for something that someone else owns, it does not matter who the checks are coming from. that is exactly how the law views a situation like that and you could even be evicted from the house you were paying for.

Same here and my pops is in his mid 70s. The last time he asked he was totally offended but got over it.

Speaking of which, the turkey went out and bought a brand spankin new porsche. To which I didn't even bother asking
