Huff,

I got the airbag recall. I my wife took the car in today to Earnhardt's and I told them it flooded/had difficulty starting. Spoke on the phone w/service advisor after and he stated that they recalibrated the PCM and fixed the airbag recall. I'll do the brake stomp test tonite and let you all know if it shows the L flash and also any thoughts on changes in the car's behavior etc.

Went in last week got it done. I'm looking like I'm getting some better performance. I was able to get 250 mpg with a mix of city and highway driving (various amouts of aggression) as opposed to my usual 230. I'm at about 2500 miles so I don't think I'm running rich anymore. It's not great but, it's better I say give me another month to see if this is something consistent.

Follow up to the L flash....

I noticed that the mpg has improved slightly (no hard data, just gauging it based on how often I fill up and the tank seems to be lasting a bit longer).

I also noticed the smoother accelerating through the lower rpms.

Oddly I also noticed my rpm at idle dropped about 250rpm to 750 or so.

Well, i took mine into Big Bell under the AB recall. I mentiond to the service writere that the car likes eating oil. I called Mazda Cust Ser and they mentiond to have the " PCM Flash" performed.
he wrote it up and the 8 acts like it has more power.
I let all of you know about the MPG next week.

Okay...another update.

Went for a drive with the RCCAZ today. (Rotary car club of AZ). I got 200 miles to 3/4 tank of gas and that was including about 40 miles of some 'spirited' twisties. That is a significant improvement over what I was getting before the flash.

After my second week I've gotten two 255 miles to a tank with some aggressive driving (punched it to 140) so I'm seeing some really impressive gains.

Talking

I've have driven 250 miles on 3/4 of a tank.
.Way better than what it used to get.
I fueled up with @ 3/4 w/ 10 gal.
So 250 / 10 = 25 mpg. also less oil usage

'M' - Showcase

Just updated CPU from 'K', build date 09/03, to 'M'. Notice quicker through the 3K to 6K RPM range. Overall it seems to be smoother in that range also. >6K range significant improvement. Not verified with any equipment, just my initial impressions.
