I traded in my RX-8 this past weekend (12/31/05). I bought a 2006 BMW X3. As much as I really liked my 8, I was tired of only getting 18 mpg on the highway and that was with cruise control at 68 mph all the time. The X3 will be about that, if not more AND I have the utility of this SAV (BMW's term, whatever). Car payments are about the same and, believe it or not, my insurance went down.

I'm sure there'll be days when I wish I had the 8 and the handling but it was time to move on.

you could look at that either as a really good way to start the new year, or as a really bad way...

but i suppose if your happy, then its a good way to kick off the new year.

The mags have criticized the X3 pretty bad. Also, it looks like hell.

What mags are you reading and how are you interpreting what they say? I can tell you don't do your homework. You just wanted a BMW and an SUV, simple as that. The X3 is terribly ill-conceived and the magazines pretty much all say that.

 

For a newbie to post like this, there's only one thing for me to say: I'm not going to get into a discussion with you about this.

Good luck out there. I drive an X5, which is heavier, but not by much. Averaging 17 mpg. Might not be by much, but good luck 310.
