$4,000 discount in So Cal

Saw this in todays paper. Just happened to be going to dealer today for my first free service. Had about 9 cars in stock.
Fully loaded GT's with nav and appearance package @ 4K of MSRP. All were new 6 speeds One each Silver, Yellow and Blue.

The price would be around $1000 under invoice. However, those three cars at that price might be demos.

Be careful at Browning. When I went there in the middle of October, almost all their 8's were built in June or July. That is highly unusual. This was the case not only for the 8's on the main lot but also for the cars on their huge nearby storage lot. Many other dealerships at that time had cars built in August and September.

Do you think someone can go to another dealer and ask for a price match???? That price is even better than S-Plan!

Cars were not demo's, one had 14mi other I saw had 17. They said most people wanted lower content cars, non gt or without nav. Had sold one of them when I went back to pick mine up from service. Serial numbers are in add.

14 and 17 miles are a bit too high which means they are most likely demos

I also bought my RX-8 at Browning with around 8-12 miles on it, but I was pretty happy with the price I got for the car (the tax i paid on it is another story tho .) Had it for about a month now, and only problem I've had with the car is the tire pressure light came on maybe 3 times, the oil light came on once and went away, and the power steering light came on once. Im also getting about 160-170 miles per fill up, but I do a bit of hard driving, and average about 80-90 mph on the freeway. Dunno if I should be too concerned about that tho. My RX-7 definatly got better milage, but I'm very happy with the car otherwise.

Mike, hopefully it doesn't mean anything. But you're probably aware of those early concerns (oil light, other lights, apex seals, ecu, mileage, etc), which some people here are saying have been sorted out. Crashunit's post indicates he's experienced the whole gamut of problems. He probably bought one of those early cars of which Browning has so many.

I have no idea if those early production problems are a genuine widespread issue. And, if they are, I have no idea if they have been sorted out. All I can do is minimize my chances of "acquiring" those problems by buying among the most recently bulit. That's the only factor under my control.

If the last six digits for the three cars in the ad are from the VIN, then it does appear all three of those are early batch June and July cars. Here's the Browning situation as far as I can see it. Either (1) they and Mazda are aware that the early problems are legit and Mazda is giving Browning a dealer rebate on early cars so that they can afford to sell the cars at $1000 under invoice OR (2) those cars have been on the lot so long that the 3-month holdback has just about run out (quite probable) so that Browning is desperate to unload them. Maybe it's both, who knows?

Ok I'll ask again, If I printed out the ad and went to a local dealership asking for a price match what would happen?? I can always call Browning, tell them to hold a car for me and fly over there to get it right?

Someone give me Browning's phone number!

Google to their website and they'll also give you an on-line printable certificate for $100 off your next car purchase(new or used).

I'm glad to hear it, Mike. Then that should bode well for me because I have a car made in September.

But I have to tell you, my first tank got me 20.5 mpg. Of course I drive pretty conservatively (mostly on the fwy) and I haven't gotten above 21.67 mpg. I'm totally fixated on the fact that I can't get 24 mpg, at least not yet (2200 miles on my car).

You must have been flooring it constantly to get 13 mpg. Now I'm curious if I drove like a maniac, could I produce 13 mpg?

Now you got me onto the mileage issue again!!!! What we need is ONE person from this forum to travel to all the members' homes, one at a time, and drive each of our cars for a week or 3 tankfuls. LOL. That would solve the issue!
