Introducing Infinite Scroll

Introducing a new, simpler way to read the RX8Club: Infinite Scroll! Now, instead of needing to click "Next" in a thread to keep reading additional posts, you will see a layout that automatically loads the next page of a thread as you scroll. We've also updated a few other parts of the layout so they remain easily accessible while you read, including access to thread search, a button to jump to the first unread post, and a Quick Reply box that lets you type a reply while scrolling through the thread content.

In tandem with Infinite Scroll, we also rolled out a revised post editor that lets you see your post formatting changes in real time. For example, if you choose to bold your text, the text will appear in bold right in the editor - no need to submit or preview the post to see the change. Keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl + B for bolding are now supported, too. Additionally, the revised editor includes a combined photo and attachment uploader. The forum will know to embed image uploads into your post, and place all non-image files (PDFs, Word docs, etc.) as attachments at the bottom. You can even upload multiple file types at once and the forum will sort them on the fly.

We're happy to answer any questions you may have about the new functionality right here in this thread. If you would like to keep the standard thread view with separate pages, or remove the related threads that appear at a thread's end, head to your User CP's Edit Options page and simply disable “Infinite Scroll” or “Related Threads." Please note that these options only apply to the desktop version of RX8Club.

Thank you for the update! I do not care for the infinite scroll, as it makes things a little frustrating for me, so I did in fact disable it, as I did on rx7club. Robb on the IB team over there has been great to work with and we are also planning a bunch of forum updates as well.

Yeah I'm going to turn it off as well, I notice since this update it takes a lot longer for a given page to finish loading and there are little stutters while it's loading or fishing for related threads / other pages.

The reply editor upgrades are nice though, thanks!

Appreciate the feedback, guys. Should you wish to try infinite scroll again in the future, we have further updates coming down the pipe to improve its overall speed and performance.

I like the infinite scroll for a single given thread I wish to read, but I don't like the fact that it suggests another thread. Sometimes I don't realize and go "WTF" until I scroll back up and see that I wasn't on the original thread anymore.

Also, since we are on the topic of upgrades... Any plans for the GarageTalk app?

You can disable just the related threads by selecting the "Disable Related Threads" toggle on your User CP's Edit Options page.

As for Garage Talk, we've shifted our focus to the mobile website instead of a dedicated app. This allows to roll out new features faster, such as projects already in the works like enhanced profile pages and better push notifications.

Sorry to hear that. Are there any particular aspects of the new changes you don't like?

Just to make sure I'm on the same page as you, are you referring to the previous blue logo banner or something else?

The themes/appearance of the site prior to the changes in early October 2018 were much better.
See this thread: https://www.rx8club.com/website-rela...themes-268448/

I turned infinite scroll off because it irritates me. I like quantized packets of data.

I do like the new editor, though.

not at all, we used to be able to have a blue background vs the white one. it was much easier on the eyes. banners and ads are what they are.

but reading a dark back ground with lighter text is optimal. google is going that way.

and the new scroll feature is meh. but you can turn it off. as you could with the dark background!

This is a huge improvement in readability.

Thanks, IB Jason.
