Racing seat & harness

Huff,
Have you given any thought to installing a harness and racing seats?

I'd be very interested to know if you have found a way to add these items and still be able to retain the RX-8's functionality (useable rear doors & seats) when the car is used as a daily driver.

SpeedRacer,
Yep, been giving it some thought as I will be replacing the seats in favor of something alittle more track worthy. That's probably the only thing I'm not impresed with, the seats. I had JDM STI seats in my WRX and those were the best daily driver/race seats I've owned. I haven't seen a harness bar yet and I am planning on some Takata racing harnesses. BTW, the wheels came in today. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

I know what you mean. Nomex, leather, and high G turns are not a good combination in the stock seats. With this setup I'm finding myself bracing against the dead pedal far too often.

Do you think it would be possible to mount a harness bar near the rear shelf and attach it to the C-pillars? Or is that too long of a distance to safely mount a harness?

Engine-wise, I'd vote for the install of a Borla exhaust, followed by a SC and revised ECU as soon as possible. Of course, the SC would involve a new intake.

I'm very interested in the ECU as well. I put on the clear corners last night. Very easy install. Total time, 20 min. I took a few pics and will post them tomorrow. We also filmed it. We will be experimenting with this as a film documeted "how to" and we are planning to do more of this. We haven't edited it yet but total time will be somewhare around 6min or less. I'll shed more light on this in the next few days. BTW I love the look of the JDM clears. They have a more 3D sculpted look compared to the uexciting flat orange ones.

Update

A few days ago we got in the JDM clear corners. Not the cheapo version, but the real Mazda JDM version. These came with the lens, bulb, and harness. In my experience with most real JDM side markers I've found that you can usually use the stock harness and just swap the bulb from the new one. That's the case with these. Easy as pie. One thing you notice once you compare the USDM to the JDM is the more aggressive styling of the JDM. It's thicker if you will, that is to say that the orange one is flat and the other is somewhat muscular and sclupted. You can notice it in the pic but It's way more apparent to the touch. I find myself touching them alot.

Installation is super easy and so fast in fact that I didn't take pics. We did however film it an hope to post the "how to vid" soon. Once your done (all of 15min later) it really changes the way the eye flows over the car. The bright orange seemed to brake up the natural lines. These pics are poor I admit as it was done indoors and I'm no Ansel Adams.

Here you can see the differece at with the lights off.

All said and done it was quick and easy. And looks and FEELs good. Also makes the car stand out a little more in a crowd of RX8s. We'll up date later when the video is done. Stay tuned.

What did you guys do for the Tire Pressure Monitor when you switched rims? I heard you ordered the Auto-EXE kit, very sexy.

The TPS light will come on and blink periodically but it has no ill effect on performance or anything else. When the light blinks it's just letting you know that there is an irregularity in tire pressure.

And yes, we did order the Auto-EXE kit, should be here in the next two weeks. We'll post more later. I haven't decided if I'll be putting it on the car or not yet. If I don't then we'll sell it to some lucky forum member.

Huff,
Have you thought about adding a camera to the car so that it will be featured in one of the next VividRacing videos? Last night I read a short write up from Dan about the VüZ camera system. That looks like a very sweet setup especially if it can be tied into the Nav LCD screen.

I'd be interested to hear how it has worked for Dan and if you can do a price that is better than VüZ let me know. Thanks!

I'd even be happy to provide some nice video clips to VividRacing on a regular basis if it would knock a few bucks off the price.

the car looks fantastic so far. i love those volk le37's. i for one would REALLY like to see you guys develop a twin-turbo system, like the one greddy has for the 350z. and i'd like to see you program one of those digital meters/gauges into the nav lcd monitor, a la the monitor on the r34 gt-r and the one on the first mazdaspeed showcar, for boost and all that...
