No, Thomas, I don't have a death wish. Once you have a family you'll understand how much is riding on you as a Father. It changes your priorities. Dying in a reckless car accident goes to the bottom of the list. It becomes quite selfish to put yourself in avoidable high risk situations that impact your families future.

I am thinking of Decarbing mine this weekend with the Seafoam/2 cycle method. Did your car smoke alot and was it hard to start???

Fortunately for me, Mazda covered the cost of the decarb & new plugs.

1. Is the assumption that the driving I do is reckless. I would not characterize my driving as reckless. While speeds are high I make sure they are not high enough that A. I am losing control of the car, or B that I am violating the lane of on coming traffic. I am also in a hyper alert situation and have always driven defensively to begin with. You've been to 1 state meet already and you also saw my big focus on safety (which did me alot of good since not even DFW people were following my rules, *cough* NICK *cough*) I didnt earn the Mom title in DFW for being reckless.
2. that if I die my family is not taken care of financially. A. I am well insured to make sure the wife and kids are not responsible for ANY debt after I go including a mortgage payment. and B. My wife has a steady job as a teacher and could more than provide as a sole supporter given that she would have no debt. I did not talk about any of the emotional stress, because honestly there is no amount of preparation that could be done for that. I've only got one life to live and being an adrenaline junky I sure as hell am going to live it to the fullest.
In essence what I am saying is that everything we do all the way down to getting out of bed and going to work in the morning has risk. How you mitigate and plan and assess that risk is entirely up to you. I do not think that I have been irresponsible in any regards to this.

Ok Thomas. You don't have to be out of control to be reckless. Driving at high speeds on public roads with other traffic puts you & everyone around you at increased risk. Whether or not you're in your own lane or not doesn't diminish the fact that the faster you go, the less time you have to respond when some moron cuts you off, swerves in front of you, etc... Now, as Adam so kindly pointed out, I don't always follow my own convictions, but that doesn't change my philosophy.
To your other point... Taking care of your family financially is sooooooooo not the same as actually being there as your child grows up. Money doesn't replace a dead Dad, regardless of how much life insurance you have. Nor will it replace the father, mother, brother, sister, child in the other car that may or may not be the cause. Driving normally with these lunatics on the roads here in the metromess is risky enough, you add aggressive driving you've just compounded the risk by an infinite amount.
You call me after you witnessed the birth of your daughter and have held her in your arms for the first time and looked down into those eyes. It changes a person. That is once you swallow that lump in your throat and wiped away the tears of joy. There will be nothing you'll want more than to watch her grow up, protect her and be there for her. You can't do that if you're gone. Adreneline junky or not, that little bundle of joy will change your life & priorities forever.

Now as far as family I definitely also agree with you about watching your kids grow up, at least for you. To that I have no argument because as you've so rightly pointed out, I haven't held Arcadia in my arms yet. I am only basing how I feel on the issue through my past experiences and data sets. Everyone has told me I will change when the day comes, but I still think that remains to be seen.
Now you are definitely right about me asking. I was honestly curious and am glad that you gave me a frank response. The point of my reply is that I felt rightly or wrongly that I was getting lumped in with the reckless lot. Was just trying to counter that.

While argue may be a synonym for debate, or to present opposing sides, I would say that arguing has negative connotations, which I don't believe is what is happening, otherwise any rational conversation would be an argument and that just sounds bad
