We are taking both 8s but will drive the wife's LY on the run. Mine has all maintenance done but on the LY

MT90 trans fluid, replace both belts, maybe new tires by then...

9krpmrx8 03-01-2010 10:30 AM

Got my new radiator, rad hoses, did some maintenance and cleaning on my oil cooler and changed my diff fluid this weekend. I will try and do some interior stuff this week and possibly the dipstick light.

Next weekend I will do the tranny fluid and the Mazmart OP kit (gotta get this damn thing in!) and hopefully the rear rotary light and fender vents.

The following hopefully I can get the catch can in and grounding kit.

I just order it from www.redlineoil.com and for the diff fluid I'll prbably go with the 75W-90

renesisjim 03-02-2010 09:48 AM

Thermastat is ordered. Got tired of waiting for the waterpump to come off backorder. I want to order sways, but I think I need an MM tune for my cobb more. Although the sways would finish out my suspension. Desicions

9krpmrx8 03-02-2010 10:25 AM

MM tune. Sways can wait.

I got all my fluids from Mazda (100,000 miles many track days, always ran OEM fluids) and I believe the rear diff is 80W. I will double check when I get back home. I bought tranny and diff fluid at the dealer and I think the tranny is 75W but the diff is 80W. And i will have you know that my diff fluid was clear and it has been like 50,000 since I last changed it.

Lord ET 03-02-2010 01:13 PM

I was having major grinding issues in second and into third with the OEM transmission fluid, but when I switched to MT-90 it has stayed nice and precise ( 20k miles so far)
I'm not a hard shifter either. I push clutch to the floor and let the shifter slide in on its own.

WTBRotary! 03-02-2010 01:56 PM

3 quarts of each? Roughly? Right diff holds like 1.5 and tranny holds 2.2, right?

Just 2 qts for the tranny. I had leftovers only ordering 2.

WTBRotary! 03-02-2010 02:17 PM

^ Weird, I could swear Kyles Tranny took like 2.2 quarts or maybe more... Hmm, I'll order 3 of each to make sure

I'd like to have a local prepare meet for this sorta stuff like you guys did last time, though I def dont want to do it at 2 am before we are getting ready to leave that Friday morning....

9krpmrx8 03-02-2010 03:04 PM

Rear diff is 1.3-1.4qts and tranny is 1.8qts.

WTBRotary! 03-02-2010 03:53 PM

Thanks 9k, helps out some, I had forgotten the exact amount they both hold

Thomas, Steve and I have been contemplating taking that Thursday before we leave off to make sure everything is good to go.... however I've been having to do enough lately that I may not have to take off work. Maybe we can make it an afternoon-evening-halo sort of event. Unless somebody has some really big jobs to do...like brandon (Building car from scratch)

sisco 03-02-2010 07:49 PM

Well when I first bought the car 2nd and 3rd synchros were toasted pretty quick. Fortunately I was still under warranty and had them replaced. Then just before 50K miles 5th gear synchro also died. I had that replaced at 49,xxx mi. After that I went for about 10k miles on whatever fluid they put in at the dealership. Then I started getting a little grind in 3rd and 4th. I replaced the fluids with MT-90 and it's been smooth sailing ever since. You may have success with the shifting being smoother for a while after your fluids are replaced, but if the problem is severe enough it will persist.

sisco 03-02-2010 09:40 PM

okay i see. well i bought the car about 5 months ago and it has some kind of warranty left on the "drive train" untill july. so idk if i should take it to get checked because is its not covered im gonna have to pay for lavor. or whatever mazda told me.

i also have a squaky nosie in my transmission but it goes away when i rest my foot on the cluctch pedal.... anybody know anything about this??? (i know this is not the right thread but it would help me alot if someone knows)

throwout bearing.

Lord ET 03-03-2010 08:09 AM

Agreed with the throwout bearing. Also if you still have the drive train warranty go in there and ask tell them to look at it under warranty. But make sure it will be under warranty first. They'll have to reproduce the grinding issues to replace it, so make sure that you can show them.
