My engine rebuild.

It appears through the years facebook has changed the link to the pictures I posted in this thread. I have made the resurrection album visible to the public on my Facebook you can find it here.

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...1754274&type=3

Please let me know if you cannot open it.

Just thought I'd share my progress. There aren't to many threads out there of people doing real work on their car... props to rotary resurrections thread which I had to reference a few times.
Started at 9:30

Well After 1.5 hours the engine was ready to be pulled but we had no cherry picker. luckily SR motorsports was cool enough to let me borrow one.

so after lunch and a few other odds and ends we got back to work around 1600.

Had a few hic ups with the harness and the header but overall it was a smooth
pull.

Got it down to the core by 1900 and cleaned it up.

Going to break it down tomorrow to see the damage and how much money this is going to cost!

I can tell you right now I had a massive massive oil leak and low compression.

however my oil squirter lines are in almost pristine condition.

It appears that the engine is a reman but not all gaskets and parts were replaced.

Overall it was a successful day.

My best friend Mike helped out as well. Without him this wouldn't have happened so mad props to him.

The concept of a 3rd engine sends shivers down my spine. I'm at 124k right now.

I got my third at 96,000, I'm at 109,000 now but I am now running the SOHN adapter, upgraded oil cooler, and Mazmart oil pressure kit. You gonna rebuild it yourself?

I am rebuilding it with my friend and a rebuild DVD! lol it sounds foolish I know. He's rebuilt several M3 motors and Ive wrenched on a few turbo II's and my rennie. never rebuilt one but there's always a first time for everything.

I'm confident that we will run into several problems 1. fitting the seals 2. mating it to the transmission. 3. getting the harness back in the correct order the first time.

I'm looking into the sohn adapter as well. I figure now is the time for headers sohn adapter and a flywheel. Headers aren't needed, but ya know what its cheap and its easily accessible.

The tolerances are pretty different... pay attention to them because your dvd may not cover them!

I am fairly confident I will take the same approach when this engine fails. I have rebuilt quite a few piston motors so with the Renny goes I will just take my time and do it slow.

Of course unless Mazmart has another sale, I am still kicking myself for missing that.

Thank you all!!! I'll keep you updated as time goes on.

looks like my omp gasket water pump gasket and front seal are all shot which is fine becuase everything is being replaced lol.

The SSV is fine... The APV is a different story I need to investigate that... That much carbon and oil residue on it gives me a little insight as to the inside of the engine.

I'll shoot some pics tonight when we get it on the stand and disassemble.it took me 3 cans of brake cleaner and a **** ton of engine degreaser to get all the caked on oil off. i now stink of petroleum based solvents

Some updates for y'all

A little backyard mechanic action.

engine stand adapter do not attempt this job without one

This bolt can go to hell

Oil pan off

Bolt going to hell and more backyard mechanics, the breaker bar was flexing inside the pvc tube

Front cover off, sorry its blurry

The good the bad the ugly... This is why you need to sea foam more than once a year.

I am potentially going to reuse this housing. the scratch is very fine although it looks much worse in this picture.

No idea why we kept that dip stick in for so long.

Housing #2 no scratches

Nastyyyyy

P.S. just a warning the engine smells of dead rotting fish when you crack it open.

Just a quick update.

I cleaned all the connections on the harness with QD electrical cleaner and a nylon brush.

removed the gasket off the oil pan and cleaned that up.

Still about a half days worth of work before we can begin the rebuild.

i am ordering the kit on Tuesday.

Enough of that looks at these nasty valves!!!

After an hour of scrubbing I got all the valves clean again and start cleaning the intake manifold.
