Search is NOT helpful

You know, this search function really needs some adjustment.

I put in: "Stage 1 dyno"

and I get back that I need to use words with 3 letters or more. WTH ?

How are we supposed to search if simple queres don't work?

Is there a fix?? Why does it have to (NOT!) work this way?

Also this site is so slooooowwwww lately. What happened?

I think you just happened onto one of those bad terms for searching. Usually using teh boolean modifiers works pretty good for anyting I've needed to find.

Unfortunately, the wildcard feature is still fundamentally broken - any query that includes a wildcard returns ZERO results. Try "stage and dyno" vs "stage and dyn*" for example.

IMHO this is even worse than the three-character restriction, because it precludes searching for variants on a word in a single query, as in rattl* to find all the threads on rattle, rattles, rattled and rattling.

Most of the time that I try to perform a search, I receive the message saying that I can only perform 1 search every 20 seconds.

What causes this?

Is the search function not Linux friendly?

btw, the problem with the original search is that the engine takes each term individually (obviously) and "1" is not a three letter word (as is the minimum).

I think it's a normal function to limit people from overloading the server from frequent searches.

I understand the purpose of that feature. What I am saying is that it has problems. I can sign on to the forum and I get that message for the very first search I try to perform.

When you click "View New Posts" or, when not logged in, "Today's Active Threads", that uses the search engine. You have to wait before doing another search.
