Much needed update for the thread: RX-8 aftermarket exhausts SUMMARY

I don't know if people just don't see the thread there anymore, but if it is to remain a sticky thread, the least you can do is update the links and information in it. Some of the information is no longer accurate and some of the videos are no longer available. Just want you guys know what is going on.

Good point. But, that thread was put together by a volunteer and no one has since maintained it. Are you volunteering or interested in updating it?

I might try to put something together, unless bobclevenger wants to step up to the plate. One suggestion I want to make different is the manufacturers' hp claims. Racing Beat has proved that not much could be had from a cat-back exhaust (3hp tops from their engine dyno readings. The engine gained 4hp when it was run without a muffler or catylitic converter), so I think outrageous claims like 22hp, for example should be left out of the revised thread. Something that I would add is the weight of the whole exhaust unit (because if no hp could be gained, the least we could take advantage of is the reduction of weight.).

That is all I can think of right now, and again, I would attempt to do a write up but I am not the most computer literate person here so I will have some difficulties to accomplish it.

Second, "Header-back" systems -- these are NOT street-legal:

Greddy: Price is about $1000 for complete system.
Greddy claims a 22HP increase over stock for this.

B&B: Price is about $950 for the cat-back system plus the race pipe.
Vivid Racing claims a 19 HP increase over stock (unknown if this is with or w/o cat).

Third, Street-legal systems with cat. If the info isn't there, I didn't find it. If anyone has any more info on an exhaust system for the RX-8 please e-mail me at bob@bobclevenger.com and I will add it to this post. That way we keep all the exhaust info in one place.

Pretty sure Bob is gone and/or will not object. I stuck the text of his original thread in your reply above so you can commence to cleaning it up and implementing the GOOD changes you're suggesting. Just click on "edit" your post above, then work within the {quote} {/quote} tags.

Where did he go? He posted inthe Axial flow thread a few days ago methinks. Anyway, it would be awesome if you put this together. Some very good information. I agree with the hp claims, leave em out, maybe have Jim from Racing Beat post a bit about the exhaust, or just link to that specific article on their site.

Thanks Omicron, you have just made my job a whole lot easier. I will edit it as I see fit. It will take a bit of time since I will have to do a whole lot of searching on the forum and on the internet to gather all the information. Any of you guys reading this can help me with your suggestions and technical know-how. Afterall, this is OUR forum and not just mine. I just want to state that this isn't meant to put Bob down by any means. If he wants to step in at anytime and take over, he can.

You're welcome - thanks for stepping up to the plate on this. Let me know when you get it done and I will use your text to update Bob's thread, making sure you get full credit for the update. :D

By the way, if we are talking about "much-needed updates" the RX-8 FAQ thread certainly could use some update considering that the last change is from 10/08/2002
