just wanted to know why the pictures are missing from old posts? Is this done to conserve space on the servers thats hosting this forum? Some pictures are actually helpfull for DIY projects. Is there a way to get these pictures back?

its kind of dissapointing to find a nice DIY post and then have none of the pictures that actually make the thread useful.

 

Yes, this is particularly disturbing to those of us who have made monetary contributions, no matter how small, to support the owners of this forum. I realize that they are spending their own dollars to run the forum, and I certainly appreciate that, but if the disappearance of the supporting DIY images is based on server capacity considerations, I think there are probably other ways to free up space on the servers or to simply add additional space. The DIY's are the most important section of this forum in my opinion, and I would ask the mods to return the supporting images if at all possible.

It may be that those missing pictures were hosted on non forum servers, and the links are now broken to them. Ryan will not be able to fix those. The person that posted them will need to edit his/her post for broken links.

 

what happens a lot of times is that pictures are hosted on non forum servers, as nemesis stated, (usually to personal web space such as comcast, aol, etc) and the person who uploaded those pictures either moved or deleted pictures to make more space available for storage of other items, or they closed their accounts and now the info is no longer available using the links as originally published.

That may be true in some cases, but I would expect a placeholder for a missing attachment to be visible at the end of those postings and I don't see that in the oil change DIY, for example.

 

Hmmm, the attachments are still there ... I've seen this once before, thought it was a fluke thing. Now I gotta figure out how to fix it.

 

You mean the link to the images was somehow removed? That's a bit wierd. Maybe done during a maintenance restore or some such? You might want to spot check some other DIY's and I'll do the same.

yes when you go to make a post in these 'problematic' threads you have no options to 'insert' pics into threads

I think when you guys switched from 'attached in post' to 'attached as thumbnail to download' they were lost...just a thought

 

The weird thing is, the attachments are still there ... I can see them as an Admin, just the link to them in the thread is lost. I have an open support ticket with vB to try and get this fixed.

Ultimate Zaino thread is missing lots of pics.

 

As it was said by Ryan, the pictures are not really missing just for some weird reason they are detached from the post. However, if the poster edits the post, the attachments will appear again.
I was able to fix some of my posts that also had missing pictures. Once I went to "manage attachments", the pics showed up.

 

is there any way to bring these back w/o the original post editing them? some of the original posters haven't checked back in for some time...
