Bring Politics Back!!!!
I was never part of the debates but I feel that we lost some good personalities when politics was banned. The lounge is not what it use to be.

On a serious note, I'm still wondering what the Lounge is for. If it's a place to post off-topic stuff then why have limitations. If someone doesn't like the content, they don't have read the thread.

The Lounge sucks now. I used to learn a lot there. I'm just glad the 'copy cat' threads have died. After a while those made me wish I could reach through the screen and slap the thread starter.

I believe in the seperation of "car" and "state"
No, do not bring politics back. A little spirited disagreement is fine, but when you have "tough" guys threatening and insulting each others genome the situation is ridiculous to say the least.

A separate politics forums will work and does work on other sites.
1) Create a separate forum for Politics/News/Current Events and label it as such. Place disclaimers informing visitors of the nature of the section and the topics discussed.
2) MOD it with a heavy hand by MODerators who have shown an interest in such topics in the past. If a members attacks ANOTHER MEMBERS VIEWS and NOT the topic being discussed, or flames another member, then deal with them swiftly and equally across the board. It is one thing to present your views and quite another to attack the views of another.
3) Give varying degrees of banishment IAW the degree of TOS violations.
When I see a political discussion, I rarely even enter the section. Those topics simply do not interest me. The problem with politics on THIS board has been that they were placed in the lounge where all the riff-raff, sodomites and lounge lizards participated for the soul purpose of engagement.
I don't think the management of this board even considers these requests because, with all bullshit aside, there's only a handful of the MODs here who are TRULY driven by the spirit of Zoom-Zoom. For the rest, it's just a power-trip. I'm being as truthful and polite as I can.

There are political blogs everywhere. I have my favorites.
Why duplicate such discussions here - especially if they introduce a heavy moderator overhead?
The service of this board is provided to us users for free. If political discussions mean the site owners and volunteer moderators must do a ton of extra work interceding with the trolls then the costs outway the benefits.

I was actually going to post that I was 'for' political threads until I read your post. You are absolutely correct......there are political forums all over the internet.....there is no need for another one here. Good post CBD!

Another good point. There are other lounges......politics....cars....even other RX8 forums, but we're not talking about other forums, we're talking about THIS one. I haven't seen too many forums which doesn't host an "Off Topic" or "General Discussion" section.
All i'm saying is there are members of THIS forum who enjoy discussing those topics. If a handful are too aggressive, deal with them accordingly. Create the section, post disclaimers and fergit-about-it. I certainly wouldn't post in there....politics are boring...I'd rather start a photochop contest.
Call it the JUNGLE, sell jungle t-shirts....who lknows.. Really makes no nevermind to me.
GOMEZ!! How ya doing down under, mate? Are you okay? Need anything? Give us a shout!

From my experience here most political discussions turn quickly into pissing parties. I've got other forums I can go to if I want to discuss politics, religion etc.

I have to say that it has been awhile since I had posted on this forum. It was because of the "political" forums. I am not a brilliant man, but I defend the military to the bitter end. I liked the forum because there were a few, VERY FEW, that had some amazing insight on both sides of the aisle of politics.
Unfortunately, there were others that just said things to **** you off...like when speaking about the validity of Iraq. Some dumbass decided to come on and say the military sucks. I wanted to toss my computer.
I was happy to see it was gone when I recently returned. Yes, the lounge is a little dryer. I don't get my daily teary laugh episodes from some of klegg's rebuttals. But just think...now there is more time to do things like photoshop pink caliper's (Morgan) prosthetic hair brush leg in animation. That one made my stomach hurt.
