Adding the VB Thank You "Hack"?

Just curious if this has been discussed or might be of any use. I have come across some forums (androidforum.com) and they have a plugin installed that allows users to "Thank" other users for helping them out in posts:

http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=165673

I know that there is no "reputation" plugin enabled here, and I assume thats for a good reason, but would the "Thank You" plug in fall under that category as well?

I feel it might be a nice way to encourage users to help out more than just troll. Just a thought!

Seems like a logically good idea to me. The Mod's can also use this for vendors as a track record.

Yea I'm sure one of the concerns is people abusing it but I think it is worth a shot

We're going to take a look at this plug-in and see if it's something we could potentially add to the site.

cheers,
robb

No, not a Mod or Admin. He actually gets paid for being on this site.

the thank you feature is "nice" but to be honest it gets ANNOYING really quick.
people thank each other for the most ridiculous things, it's one more thing on my screen taking up space and it really doesn't tell us much about the person or their post quality.

Agreed either one will work. I agree with jedi though that it can get abused, so maybe the helpful answers one is easier. I believe though that the "thank you" one may also truncate if there are more than like 10 thank yous on a thread to help conserve real estate but I dont know.

One good think is that it will help users find answers quicker in longer threads because you can basically just skim till you see an answer that has been marked.

edit:

Actually here is a cool feature of 'helpful answers'

"The ability to audit the system and identify top users and potential abusers."

Bringing this one back.

Lately I have seen a lot of the 'low post' guys and even the well seasoned guys really step up and actually help out the 'newbs' and the lazy. Although some people think this plugin is easily exploited, i think it is a great way to not only recognize the helpfulness of these guys, but also provide a stronger sense of appreciation amongst the community. It would really help make the more 'elite' and 'knowledgable' members stand out

it will only promote backslapping circle jerk cliques. It in no way defines who is knowledgeable, elite, or actually helpful. There are plenty of people going out of their way trying to be helpful, but only parroting stuff they read that is flat out wrong and they didn't know any better, just stupid, or pulled out of their rectum.
