Profec E-01 for Greddy turbo???

So I know I have posted many posts, but you guys keep offering cool info, so just one more. So I am trying to put some sort of controller that lets me adjust the performance on my car, without laptop. Basically something that adjusts by just the push of a button. So if I want gas saver mode, or a more economical approach, I can just push a button and boom...set to economy mode....or if WRX STI pulls up and wants to race, I can switch to super duper fast turbo mode......(I am putting on a Greddy turbo kit with this, so the turbo wouldnt just be mad e up in my mind) Would a Profec boost controller allow that? I know they make one in the Cobb stage 2 kit for a WRX, but I am unfamiliar with the products out there for RX 8's. So when I get my stuff installed, I just wanna do it all at once. Any tips???

Pretty much most boost controllers have two different modes. On the Profec Type S (B Spec or E01) you have 2 different settings. A low boost setting, and a high boost setting. On the HKS Boost controller you do as well. Gives you more precise control as well. Other companies like Apexi & Blitz put out boost controllers as well. I had the Greddy B Spec II unit, unfortunately it allows overboosting at times. Unless you want to look at the datalogging info. (which the HKS does as well), or are planning to program the E Manage with it, the E01 is a bit overkill. It is quite a bit more than expensive than a standard boost controller.

I just talked to a freind, and he said what I am talking about is a UTEC. Which they do not offer for RX 8 right now. I think I will go with the HKS EVC unit. It seems much more user freindly and like you said, it will have two maps for boost. Thanks for the responce though, much help!!! :-)

I never understand these conversations...I always want as much power as possible!

I had an E01 for awhile. It does have some nice features, including selectable lo/hi boost. However, the screen is pretty big & I for one never found a good place to mount it so I kept it in the glove compartment.

I'm using an XEDE for engine mgmt now, & it comes with hi/lo boost control capability, but like I said, I couldn't imagine wanting LESS power. I might use it to toggle between a 91 & 93 octane tune, though.

yeah, I have seen people have a "regular" 91 octane gas setting, then when they take it to the track, have a "Hi"-100 octane gas setting.

I have the Apexi AVC-R and really like it. It offers rpm and gear based boost control. Two great features to have. The self learning is also pretty good at maintaining your boost level.

Its not that its a "more power" issue, a lot of times, per say someone who drives on a daily basis, a full all out performance tune isnt necesary say, in traffic. So a lesser psi/fuel mixture ect., then when the 350Z pulls up next to you, its an easy switch to haul *** mode :-)...or at least that how I see it going down. PS. Talked to Steve at Gotham performance...$7000 for greddy turbo/stage 4 clutch/HKS boost controller, guages and XEMS interceptor- installed and tuned....deal or no deal? What kinda WHP will I get out of this???

I just use a profec B spec II. It's easy to use, and cheaper than all the other crap out there. yea, I don't get the nice whistles and bells of an expensive E01, but I am able to do one important thing that a boost contorller should do....CONTROL BOOST!

For bells and whistles, it is hard to beat the E-01.
It plugs right into the E-Manage that comes with the Greddy kit and it can be used to acquire and log all kinds of important data with regards to the function of the RX-8.
I love mine and there is a perfect spot for it on the dash that is out of the way but very visible.

Hey stickman, I have it in my glove box under the emanage unit, and the lines go through the same hole the emanage wires go through behind the washer tank. Here is a pic...sry it's a big pic. Also, since it's in the glove box, it was kinda my own saftey percaution so I am not able to take up the boost just b/c it's like, right in front of me all the time.
