I got wind that Mazda is watching the poll over at the AUTOWEEK website closely. The concept is very close to getting greenlighted for production, but every little bit helps.

i voted a few minutes ago and there are already 5196 votes. 84.1% yes.

obviously we want it to have a rotary option and there is no provision to vote on that issue but if we don't vote we won't have that possibility.

Just voted.

Don't mean jack this, but I actually attended a car comparison survey for this vehicle a little while back. Didn't even have a Mazda emblem on it. It was just still a shell with wheels. They had a foam replica of it, just the center piece of the car (no hood, trunk, wheels, etc.). We sat inside in to be able to answer some survey questions about comfort/room and stuff.

Other cars it was compared to were: G35, RX8, Integra (4dr), Civic (4dr), MX5, 06 Eclipse, Scion, maybe one more, but no American. All the cars were same color as the Sunlight Silver RX8. Also got paid for 1 hr of my time.

Absolutely voted, 18-20k, rear drive sporty car, now if they would make the rotary an option in it, it would be the perfect car

Just voted for the production of the Kabura.
I don't think it will stay in the $18K - $20K price range though. Maybe around the low to mid 20s.
If Mazda does indeed throw a rotary in the Kabura i seriously think that the car would not excel in sales. Giving the Kabura a rotary engine would make it more of a niche car like the RX-8. Mazda needs to attract more "young" consumers, and last time i checked the rotary engine is only known by a small handful of ppl. While the MX-5 engine is more famous.

Voted yes...With some significant adjustments it could be the next Rx-7...do away with the third seat for one. The chasis has already been constructed to house the rotory engine if needed.

It would definitely need fine tuning though to make it more of a pure sports car that would go out and compete with the Vettes and Porsches.

entry level piston engined rear wheel drive coupe that weighs possibly only 2500 lbs. 190 - 200 HP (2.0l DISI MZR) for only 18-20k. thats what your voting on

Hey everyone remember, the RX7 started life as a lowly 100 hp N.A. 2 seater in 1978. A new RX car doesn't have to have a monster motor to be a worthy addition to the RX line.

Just what I was going to say, Al. The RX line also included lots of other cars besides the last halo FD, or our RX-8's. The RX in the RX-8 many will argue doesn't live up to the badging.

I voted yes, I would love to see it as an RX-3. But even if it has pistons I still think it would be a very cool car at an attractive price point.

 

Let me clarify myself, I voted on it based on the 4cyl engine (hopefully turbo nice) and rear drive platform. I know it is not supposed to be an RX, however, I still would like to be able to order it with a rotary (the miata too for that matter), that is all I was saying.

I like the 3+1 seats concept (because we're a family of 4) plus fastback/hatchback, and would personally prefer the Kabura if it was a true 2+2.

But, as others mentioned elsewhere, I'm not crazy about the front passanger seating position and the blind spot it creates when you're making a left hand turn...

(True most of the time I'd be the only one in the car ... except on weekends. Then it's my wife, eight year old and five year old – and that's the time when I really dont want any extra visual hindrances)

You mean they been working on this concept all this time and now unsure of it's strategic place in the market? I thought money was hard to come by in Ford/Mazda? Was this all just an R&D exercise?

I wished they would have spent the money on the next Rx-7 instead or a next generation rx-8 which we should have had NOW in 2006! Other cars that have launched in similar times have already undergone updates.

 

How do you figure we should have a next generation RX-8? The first model year for the car was 2004 and we are now in the third year at 2006. A new generation every three years, who does that?
