Are you racing with a lighter flywheel?

There have been a few clutches that have disintegrated.

Not heard of of one for the RX-8.

I am going to change mine to something lighter like th ACT one.

and even now I sometimes Rev over 9500, Im just a bit afraid that something might come off and take my leg with it (since light weight flywheel = even faster Revving = I might over rev it as I shift up and down)

I dont want to be the first one with clutches/flywheel/leg disintegrate

i agree. coming from the drag racing world, i know that any v-8 car that winds up faster than 7-8k needs one. i'm sure mazda produced the tranny for the r's we spin her, but i still think of it in the back of my mind. i have seen a clutch come apart on a drag car at 8k rpm and the drivers leg was in little chuncks all over the floor mat.....

Well, I know its already spec to run at LEAST 9K rpm. but hey. its better to be safe than sorry.

So ? I guess no one can really answer to this question ?

your ? was for a tran scatter shield.... what you are looking for is a shatterproof bell housing.... two very different things.

and yes i know the difference. in a good way....

do you think somehow that if you put in a lighter flywheel the rpms change????? fuel cut off is still in the same place...

what is your issue????? gears flying into the cabin????

many have done so much more than you and you are the first to ask for this.... and if you need to know it is a trans blanket...

scattershield is the bellhousing...

ballistic blanket you mean ?

Either way will do, and I dont think Im wrong about the term transmission scatter shield. Even racing beat saids the same thing so.

but whatever, shatterproofbellhousing or anything.

From time to time **** happens, and I dont really want to be the first one to have "that" kind of problems. I know rpm will change and rpm limiter is there but hey, does that mean I cant get whatever protection ? I can say I dont need Airbags but hey, its there to save my life. I dont see Why not ?

sorry about the spelling, but i know what you are talking about.

back in the day, i had a clutch blow at 6.5k rpm in a 66 mustang...

the engine cut and the hood jumped up 3 inches right in front of me.

the engine cut was caused by the pressure plate parts cutting the wiring harness. as the raise in the hood.. also the firewall was trashed, but nothing penatrated the cabin.

the bell housing was gone.

but that was a different time... not a problem now...

but i am sure you can buy one if you like, just get the right part.

i have no idea,

you might try summit racing for a blanket.

if you stuff a small block ford into a rx8 i think i can pull the part # out of my head.

good luck.

Awesome, small block Ford now goes all the way up to a 427 CI from Ford Racing.

I had the same dilema when i wanted to drag my 8.

They come up on Trademe every now and then - save a search for scatter shield and you will get one eventually .
