EventsOneill: Sydney skidpan 22/03/06 (couple of pics)

Hey guys

Kiet and I attended the EventsOneill skidpan day @ Eastern Creek today.

IT was awesome! We had a total of 23 cars majority of them being Porsche's from the Porsche club.

There were 3 rx8's present for the day. The 3rd rx8s drivers were non-forumers - hopefully they'll be able to join us for future cruises/events.

The event was like any other, first up, 5 different courses untimed for practice runs and then the same 5 courses timed with penalties. Of course, driving with traction control or DSC on was not allowed. Bonus points were given for style etc and points were taken off for hitting/touching the cones and not driving through the course in the correct direction or making wrong turns etc. There were prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

I did take my camera but didnt really have much battery left + was busy learning the courses (yes, they WERE pretty challenging with multiple figure eights and multiple jturns! so most of us spent a lot of time learning through the course as poitns were deducated for completing the course without doing the proper turns etc. or taking shortcuts hehe

Anyway, although none of the rx8's made it into the top 3, we were all pretty damn close! From the time we showed up, it was clear that the 50%+ of the Porsche would dominate the day. There was a 180k slk55 and a spectacular yellow lotus elise

I'm sure most of you will agree that the rx8 isnt really made for teh drift :P but, it all depends on the driver :P

I placed in 7th overall out of the 23, beating the elise, evo and bout 16 other cars.. hehe kiet placed 15th and the other rx8 came in last...

Anyway, here are some of the pics + the final results table, enjoy

Well done kunz and kiet.

Sounds more like a motorkhana day than a drift day. I'd be up for one of those if you intend going back - let me know. Not so interested in just drifting round in circles (no offence to those who like that kinda thing).

Thanks for posting some pics, etc.

Tuan: Your spot on bro :P That is a porsche gt3 :P

Dave: I think all of O'Neills skidpan days are motokhana/drift day hybrids. It was an awesome experience though, will definitely let you know if theres any upcoming ones.

PS I like these sorts of days better than 'going around in circle' days too MAkes the day more interesting. O'neill's really good at what he does and the courses he comes up with are pure genius (not to mention, seems like they were thought up while he was under the influence :P)

heh heh, sounds good - keep me posted on any others you plan on going to.

If I have to keep hitting things it may as well include witches hats.

There wasnt any 'formal' instructions, but there was help available during the first half of the day, i.e the practice runs for those who wanted it, but there was no assistance of any kind for the second half of the session (the timed runs) and they were pretty strict about it! lol
