Turbos Compatible with Greddy Kit?
Turbos Compatible with Greddy Kit?
Hey guys... not to sound like an idiot, but I am considering purchasing a local Greddy kit that the turbo went out on. Potentially getting a real good deal, but I want a little bit larger preferably ball bearing turbo. Anyone know what I should be looking for?
Thanks,

Not to be cruel or anything... but have you seen the space where the turbo is located in the car? Not too much to work with there...
So, it´s not a question of what turbo fits with the kit or the manifold. It´s rather a question about what turbos fit in the car?

There definitely isn't much room down there so you would be very limited. In that small space, anything appreciable over what it comes with is going to be minimal. The other thing is that even if you get a turbo to fit, the ecu tuning isn't going to work. Not even at the same bost pressure. This is because different turbos have diferent efficiencies at different boost levels. What is tuned properly for one turbo at one boost setting may not be the same requirements for another turbo at the same pressure. Luckily this is easy to fix with some tuning but you should be aware of it as it would need to be done. You don't want to just slap on a different turbo and go play.
Thanks RG, but I am planning on doing the basic tuning myself and then letting a professional go at it with a dyno. Most likely XS. It runs like bootey without tuning anyways.

So... I wonder if that bullseye upgrade would actually work on a blown turbo... I mean I would be replacing the center bearing and compressor. But it better be right for 1100 bux. Meh.

So pretty much everything is replaced, it won't matter if your turbo is blown. zoomzoom_8 has this turbo upgrade. He got it when his Greddy turbo blew.

Sweet. And the warranty is just icing on the cake! I have no plans of even trying to make anything over 350... something between 300-350 would be perfect. Thanks for the help guys!
Greddy doesn't publish that and I've never been able to find a compressor map for an 18g. But you can look at the flow maps for the 16g and 20g and get a very good idea.
Here's one for a 20g in a TD06 housing that I plotted some engine demand lines on for the Renesis. A 16G in a TD-05 looks pretty similar. From talking to some DSM tuners, I believe the 18g will flow more similar to the 20G than to the 16g.
