Modern Road Cars vs. Old Race Cars

This has been one of my favorite Top Gear segments for a while. Sorry if it's a repost but I haven't seen it on here before.

Technology is a wonderful thing. Good vid. I wonder what the next 20-30 years will bring us?

I hope to be driving a Ferrari Enzo-like performance car in 20-30 years. I would not want to leave the car...ever.

That's one of my favorite episodes of Top Gear, for obvious reasons.

They've also done an episode that had, in a round-about way, the opposite perspective. The put a modern VW R32 against an '82 GTI and (IIRC) they put a 350Z against a late 70's 240Z. There were a few others too that are escaping me right now. The old school was quicker (and funner too) in most cases. They've also done a bit comparing old early 80's Lamborghinis and Ferraris to their modern day counterparts and, even though the old models had their hang-ups, they preferred the raw driving feel of yester-year.

I think he may be thinking of the Noble. Yes you can buy a Noble here and they can put most supercars to shame for a fraction of the price.

You know those rallies cover multiple road surfaces...dirt, mud, snow, rain, AND tarmac.

True, but their suspensions and tires are more optimized for the surfaces other than tarmac. I just think they could have picked better cars for those two comparisons.

Using the rally cars is like using moto-x bikes instead of moto-gp bike to compare to normal road bikes. Sure they both race on the tarmac, but the gp bike would be a better comparison.

So they shouldn't have compared the two current rally counterparts to the old rally cars, I can't think of a much better comparo...

Plus, your moto-x argument is lame, and you know it

The Ferrari 308 and 328, supercars 25 or 30 years ago, are now classified in B-Stock in autocross, the same as the RX-8.

Technology is wonderful.

Maybe it's supercross I'm thinking of. I know there is a form of dirt bike racing that is part on road, part off.

That would just be moto-x in large stadiums with DIRT tracks built inside of them
