Gotta ask y'alls advice. i just got some Enkei RP-F1 18x9.5 rims in today. (nice, and very light) I went over them and did not notice any damage when I left the pick up place. Later when I was showing them off I noticed some shipping damage. UPS must use some sort of tank tread to move packages along. The "treads" penetrated the box and left some dents on the lip of the wheel similar to light road rash. See pics. What do I do? Should I file a claim or something. Never had to deal with this before. I wouldn't worry so much except they are new and are going to be seeing significant track time.

My tires should be in tomorrow and I have an appt to mount them on a Corghi machine. Please advise quick!!

 

never hurts to file a claim with the shipper, then just take it local and have it fixed.

 

I will drop by UPS and file a claim. Do I just walk in and say "I want to file a claim with you dumb asses"?

Fixed? really? What do they do? Will they still be as strong?

 

you can just call 1800-pick-ups and file a claim over the phone, or at least get it started.

From the pics it looks like a few small nicks in the outer lip is all correct? Or am I missing something? If so call a local tire shop and ask for the name of a wheel repairer.

Yes. Nicks on the rim is all that I can see. Very local bending (like just under the nick). Some sharp edges on the nick. Thanks for the advice. Much appretiated.

 

they have to be packaged according to UPS specifications and they'll do everything possible to deny the claim, not to mention there aren't any replacements available. I'd advise you to call GoodWin Racing and discuss your options with them first

 

I have talked to UPS and they want the package back. If they find the claim is valid, they will ship it back to GoodWin Racing. I am in correspondance with Brian and he is going to check into it also. Unfortunately, this would mean that I would have to part with one of my four rims (making the others rather large paper weights) for as long as 6 months. No way I will do that. At best, GoodWin would get it back with a check from UPS and he would fix it and send them to me. Maybe with a little off? THat would take a month. No, not interested. Damn UPS to heck.

I am going to call Ye Old Wheel shop in Elkridge MD and Wheel Dr in Gaithersburg, tommorrow, and look into repairing them. Looks like a c-spot to fix them according to lexus and bimmer forums; oh well, nothing is cheap in this hobby.

Oh, and to top of the night, I rubbed my OE rims tonight on a hidden curb (I am not going to explain. I am just trying to shunt responcibility for my stupidity onto an inanimate object). First time in the two years since I bought the car. Damn it. Damn it all to hell.

With that and the fact that I was tailed by a cop for over five minutes while out testing my freshly installed midpipe last night (that never happens in the DC metro area; they have better things to do), I have come to the conclusion that God is talking to me. Is he telling me to quit spending every spare nickel on my car? God, I hope not.

I live just north of the northern point of DC. I been trying to get to a columbia meet and meet you guys, but schedules have not been on my side. I have been around, but I dont think we have met. Hey, If there are no good meets in Jan, we should just get together for lunch or what not. I say this because I am incommunacado for Feb. Getting married. She understands the obsession but might not tolerate running off to a meet two days before the wedding. I chose to scrub my plans for the Detroit IAS this year for this reason. Oh well.

 

it's not a matter of fault, when you receive a new part and it's been damaged during shipping the very first thing you should do is call the supplier. They are responsible for providing the part undamaged. If there is a shipping claim to be filed it is from them, not you.

BTW, I had a very bad experience with Ye Olde Wheel Shop in 1995 with an RX-7TT wheel, the wheel was more bent after they returned it than what I sent. When I called them some guy went off on me over the phone and refused to do anything about it or refund my money. I mean the thing had a major wobble just spinning it on the car and didn't even sit flat on the hub you could see the heat marks where they took a torch too it and the markings they made to show the areas needing to be straightened, they didn't even clean that sh-t up

Ok, Thanks. I didnt direct the fault statement at you, but this is good info. I did not want this to seem like a rant at the supplier. I did email GWR right off the bat. He is looking into it.

I was looking at Fixrim.com as they look like one of the premier rim fixers, but as they are not local, so I would have to ship it to them.

I am hoping that this will turn out to be just a cosmetic fix and not something that will get more f'ed up when they try to fix it. Funny, I bust wheels on my MTB bike occasionally and when they go out of true, they are done. Interesting that these shops can re-round wheels that are 100s or 1000s of times stronger than my bike wheel.
